- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- A sticky, discoloured canopy
How we handle canopy cleaning in Uxbridge
Dripping edges and a sticky hood are the first things a visitor notices. Under the surface, the plenum behind the filters is typically in a worse state. We clean both, so the canopy is clean where it shows and where it doesn’t. If you have a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away and a canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection, we can help, from island canopies, wall canopies and canopy light fittings onwards.
In a smaller place like Uxbridge, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Uxbridge?
Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. As the canopy cools, condensation forms and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
Most sites get in touch after spotting something like this:
- A plenum thick with grease behind the filters
- An EHO comment about the canopy
- Condensation running down the canopy
- Fat running down the front of the hood
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Ickenham Hall is about 2.2 miles north-east), access may need planning.
What your quote should include
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- What records you will receive afterwards
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
Multi-site and managed buildings
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.
What the work involves, part by part
School and staff canteen kitchens
A canteen canopy may cook fewer hours, but it still collects grease. The whole system still needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance, and the canopy is part of it.
Plenums and filter housings
Filter housings hold the filters in place, and their channels fill with grease. We clean them so the filters sit tight and leave no gaps.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning won’t do:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- Ductwork and fans beyond the canopy (those need a full TR19 clean)
- A light fitting that doesn’t work
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.
Parts of the system we cover
- Plenum chambers
- Grease gutters
- Island canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
How the visit works
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. We plan the journey to Uxbridge and bring what the job is likely to need.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.
Before we arrive
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
Getting a quote
To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.
Advice
Uxbridge questions
Who inspects food businesses in Uxbridge?
That’s Hillingdon council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Uxbridge. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Uxbridge?
Fire safety enforcement in Uxbridge is handled by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?
We take them out, clean them and put them back. Between cleans, a filter exchange service can keep them in good order.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule with a fixed quote.
How much notice do you need?
It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Usually not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits to keep things running.
Do we need to close the kitchen for a canopy clean?
We clean when the kitchen is closed: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The range must be switched off and cooled first.
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
There’s no set price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:
- How many systems or sites are involved
- The condition of the system
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before work begins.
Helping us quote
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- A few general shots of the system
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before work begins.
Canopy cleaning in Uxbridge: the local picture
The Food Standards Agency lists about 28 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 5 hotels and B&Bs as registered food businesses in Uxbridge and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Environmental health officers from Hillingdon council inspect food businesses in Uxbridge. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Uxbridge sits within the area of Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Andrew or elsewhere in Uxbridge, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. For schools such as Whitehall Junior School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
