How kitchen extract cleaning works in SG5
We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer and grease drips onto cooking equipment, across horizontal duct runs, plenums and filters and discharge points.
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.
- We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
What you will pay
We don’t list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos, and we’ll talk you through it.

Where we work in SG5
In SG5, we work in places such as Hitchin, Stotfold and Benslow and well beyond. Every place on our SG5 list (22 in all) is covered, and kitchens are cleaned around their opening hours, overnight and at weekends included.
London and the South East cover everything from city basements to rural kitchens. Wherever the site is in SG5, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.
Stotfold: Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Mary the Virgin, or anywhere in Stotfold, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Stotfold is Fairfield Hospital, about 1.1 miles south-west.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Parking and loading at the site
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
What we need to know
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
There’s no standard price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
Aftercare tips
Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:
- Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
- Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
- Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
- Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
You get a photo report after every clean. Before and after pictures show each part of the system, alongside a list of what was cleaned, anything out of reach and the recommended next clean date.
Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.
Why deal with it now?
Grease that’s left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans.

For landlords and multi-site operators
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
FAQs for SG5
What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Ask us for a fixed quote, usually ready within one working day.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.
Is TR19 a legal requirement?
TR19® itself is not law. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19 is the benchmark used to show extract grease is under control.
Will the clean disrupt our service?
We work around your hours. Most kitchens book us overnight or at weekends and the kitchen is ready to cook when we leave.
Where does the waste go?
We take it away at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.
What about areas you can’t get to?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
Which sectors do you work in?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
