Kitchen extract cleaning across Windsor

Kitchen extract cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Windsor

We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. If you’re dealing with a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and rancid smells from grease in the duct, we can help. Extraction cleaning, hood cleaning and TR19 duct cleaning all end up in the same place: a system that’s clean inside, not just on the surface, and a certificate that proves it.

What can be cleaned depends on what can be reached. Sections without access panels are recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted so they’re cleaned next time.

Most kitchens in a town like Windsor cannot close for a day, so the work is done after service, overnight or on a closed day. By the next service, the kitchen is ready to cook in again.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Aftercare tips

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise straight away
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Keep the baffle filters clean

When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the photos. A TR19 certificate follows, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Keep the outside of the canopy wiped and any grease cups emptied. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

When to call us in Windsor

Grease in the extract matters because it burns. Flames from a pan or grill can be pulled into the canopy by the fan, where burning grease can carry a fire along the ducts and into other parts of the building. For a kitchen in Windsor, keeping that fuel under control is part of the fire risk assessment.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • A TR19 certificate needed for the insurer
  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records
  • Years of baked-on grease in the ducts

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Windsor (St Leonard's Hill is about 1 mile south-west), fitting access panels needs care.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor

What the work involves, part by part

Canopy and plenum

Canopies vary from a single hood to long runs over several appliances, every section is cleaned and recorded in the photo report before and after.

Grease filters

Filters need cleaning far more often than the duct and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.

FAQs for Windsor

Can a school canteen extract in Windsor be done out of term time?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. There are about 52 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Windsor. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Who inspects food businesses in Windsor?

The local authority for Windsor is Windsor and Maidenhead council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

What is TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

How long will the clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, but large systems may be spread over more than one visit. Your quote says how long to expect.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What paperwork comes with a kitchen extract clean?

A TR19 certificate, plus a full photo report. The report lists what was cleaned, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next clean is due.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we will quote them together.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A broken extract fan that will not run
  • Ductwork that’s corroded, split or leaking (that’s for a ductwork contractor)
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Plenums and filters
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Extract fans
  • Discharge points

What we do, step by step

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. Three things shape a visit in Windsor: when you are closed, where we can park and how we get to the system.

  1. We survey the system first, from your photos and details or on a site visit.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points and you get a fixed quote.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
  4. The whole route is cleaned, from the canopy through the ductwork to the fan and the discharge.
  5. Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
