How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in The Village
Across The Village, we clean kitchen extract systems to BESA TR19® Grease. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. You get a TR19 certificate and a photo report at the end. The work covers discharge points, vertical risers and canopies and hoods, and the jobs we see most are a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and stale cooking odours from the system. Most calls from The Village come after an insurer, an EHO or a fire officer asks to see the last TR19 certificate. Either way, the answer is the same: a proper clean and the paperwork to match.
Kitchens that fry and grill hardest need the most frequent cleans, so we look at the menu as well as the opening hours when we suggest the next date.
Work in a small place like The Village starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Between visits
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Book the next clean before the date on the report
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Wash or exchange the filters often
- Run the extract fan throughout cooking
You leave with a date for the next clean, based on your cooking hours and the grease we measured. We can put the system on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly plan, so the date isn’t missed.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Switching it off early leaves vapour to settle on the canopy and plenum, and the next clean has more to do.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
When to call us in The Village
The type of cooking changes the amount of grease. Fryers, grills and open flames throw much more fat into the extract than gentler cooking, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.
The symptoms we’re asked about most include:
- Grease smells coming from the extract
- An inspection that picked up a dirty extract
- A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate
- An extract that no longer clears the smoke
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Windsor Girls' School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
Before you book anyone
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- What hours they’ll be on site
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- If they look at the system before pricing
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.
When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
The process
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, it takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Visits to a village like The Village are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- We survey the system, from your photos or on site, canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.

Advice
What happens if it’s left?
Grease build-up causes everyday problems too. Filters block, airflow drops and the kitchen gets hotter and smokier and the fan strains to keep up. Grease drips, smells and condensation are common next. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

When it’s something else
Not every problem is solved by kitchen extract cleaning, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It doesn’t solve:
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
- Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)
- A grease trap that needs emptying
If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

The Village: your questions answered
Can a school canteen extract in The Village be done out of term time?
Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. Around The Village, the Food Standards Agency lists about 2 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Just ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.
Can you come to The Village after we close?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. That way a site in The Village does not have to lose a day’s trading. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
What about areas you can’t get to?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
What do you do to protect the area?
We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.
Can you quote from photos?
Yes, where the photos show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, then a fixed quote.
Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?
Because a dirty extract can spread a fire through a building. Many policies say the extract must be cleaned to TR19, and a claim may be reduced without proof, so keep every certificate.
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 too, and we’re fully insured.
How much notice do you need?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Kitchen extract cleaning in The Village: the local picture

A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. The Village is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
