Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Tapnage

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to cut noise, and they hold grease. Where they can be cleaned, they are, and the report notes anything that cannot.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Restaurants and pubs tend to cook long hours with plenty of frying and grilling, which can put them in BESA’s 3 or 6-monthly bands. We clean after close or before opening.

Kitchen duct cleaning in Tapnage

Any kitchen we clean in Tapnage gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. You get a TR19 certificate and a photo report at the end. If you have grease dripping from the canopy or filters and an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer, we can help, from vertical risers, extract fans and horizontal duct runs onwards. Kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning, extraction cleaning: whatever you call it, in Tapnage it means the same thing to us: the whole system, cleaned and certificated.

Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: wet film or deposit thickness readings show which parts of the duct need the most attention, and readings afterwards go into your report.

In a village or hamlet like Tapnage, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What a clean will not put right

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Extraction that cannot cope with the cooking because of its design

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Extract fans
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Discharge points
  • Plenums and filters
  • Vertical risers

What happens if it’s left?

Every week without a clean adds another layer. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean straight away. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. With notice, the visit to Tapnage can be fitted around your bookings and events.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

The process

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Tapnage before we set off.

  1. First comes a survey of the whole system, by pictures or a visit.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before we start.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed and the equipment has cooled, we sheet and protect the area.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Getting a quote

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We typically come back within one working day.

Kitchen extract cleaning around Tapnage

Food Standards Agency data counts about 28 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 4 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Tapnage. Every kitchen in that count with a canopy has a full extract system, canopy to discharge, to keep clear of grease. Tapnage sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. Environmental health officers from Winchester City council inspect food businesses in Tapnage. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

FAQs for Tapnage

Which fire authority looks after Tapnage?

That’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Can you get to a site in Tapnage?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Tapnage is covered. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

What information do you need?

Some photos and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

When do you clean the extract?

Out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. The equipment is switched off and left to cool, and we hand the kitchen back ready for the next service.

How long will the clean take?

Short systems are done in a few hours, while long runs and tall risers take longer and may need more than one visit. We will tell you how long when we quote.

What does TR19 mean?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Does the law say I must clean to TR19?

Strictly, the legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, not from TR19. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and an insurer may refuse or reduce a claim without it.

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning in Tapnage

In Tapnage, as anywhere, grease gathers where the air slows down: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
  • A kitchen taken over without any extract records
  • Poor airflow at the canopy

A hospital like Knowle Hospital, about 0.9 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Diarise the next clean as soon as you get the certificate
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day

The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Waste grease and water are contained and removed, so you can start cooking as normal.

Run the extract whenever the kitchen is cooking. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.
