Kitchen extract cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Staplers

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. Common call-outs are for proof of cleaning requested by an insurer and heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs, on vertical risers, discharge points and plenums and filters. If you need a kitchen extract clean in Staplers, one call covers the survey, the clean and the paperwork, wherever you are in the Isle of Wight.

Each job starts with a look at where grease has built up: grease readings at set points tell us where the heaviest deposits are, and the same readings after the clean show the result.

For a smaller kitchen near Staplers, a TR19® clean is the same job as anywhere: canopy, filters, plenum, duct, fan and discharge. We plan the visit around your hours, with the journey sorted in advance.

Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

What we’re called out for in Staplers

It’s common for parts of a duct to have been missed for years. Most of the time it’s because there were never enough access panels, so nobody could get to them. Grease in those sections keeps building out of sight.

Common reasons sites call us include:

  • An extract that no longer clears the smoke
  • A system with no record of a TR19 clean
  • A new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history
  • Fat running down the canopy edge

Where a hall near St Paul's Church, or anywhere in Staplers, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Before you book anyone

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

The process

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. In a smaller place like Staplers, parking is rarely the issue, but tell us about gates, roof access and opening hours.

  1. We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
  2. Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Here’s what helps us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Why deal with it now?

Environmental health officers inspect food businesses, in Staplers as everywhere else, and they look at the cleanliness of the premises and equipment, extraction included. Keeping the extract clean helps the whole kitchen pass muster. When a site near Staplers shuts unexpectedly, the people who rely on it notice at once.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.

Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Empty any grease troughs or cups on the canopy
  • Report grease drips, smells or fan noise right away
  • File each certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Wash or exchange the filters often

After cleaning, we re-test the same points we measured at the start, so you can see the difference in numbers as well as photos. A TR19 certificate follows, issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
  • A fan motor that has burnt out
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Kitchen extracts in Staplers

The FSA’s data shows about 15 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 6 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses registered within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Staplers. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Kitchens in Staplers get their food hygiene inspections from Isle of Wight council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Staplers sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Questions from Staplers

Can you get to a site in Staplers?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Staplers included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which fire authority looks after Staplers?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Staplers. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?

BESA guidance gives minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on daily cooking hours. Kitchens that fry or grill a lot may need cleaning sooner, and readings will tell you.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

No law names TR19 directly, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 does require the responsible person to manage fire risk. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19 as the standard, and many policies require it.

Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?

Many policies require TR19 cleaning, and insurers often ask to see the certificate. Without proof, a claim can be refused or reduced, so it’s worth checking your policy wording.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.

What does kitchen extract cleaning cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. We fix the price before work begins.
