Kitchen duct cleaning in Ventnor
Any kitchen we clean in Ventnor gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. We survey first and take grease readings, then clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. At the finish there’s a TR19 certificate and a before and after photo report. Typical jobs include an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19 and an extract that no longer clears the smoke, on canopies and hoods, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but a proper TR19® clean in Ventnor covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.
Access decides how thorough a clean can be. Where a duct run has no panels, we say so on the report and can fit new ones.
In a smaller place like Ventnor, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Why act early in Ventnor
After a fire, one of the first questions is often when the extract was last cleaned. Many policies require cleaning to TR19, and an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A current certificate is far easier to produce than an explanation. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

The process
Your staff do not need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Visits to a place like Ventnor are planned ahead, so we arrive with what the survey says the job needs.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
- We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
- After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
- Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
- The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.
Before we arrive
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Clear the space around the work

Advice
Looking after it afterwards
Once we have finished, these simple steps help:
- Keep the cleaning records where you can find them
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Book the next clean before the date on the report
- Run the extract fan throughout cooking
If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. That’s part of an honest TR19 clean, not a failing, and we can fit access panels so it’s reached next time.
Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Ventnor
Who is the fire and rescue service for Ventnor?
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Ventnor. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Who inspects food businesses in Ventnor?
In Ventnor, it’s Isle of Wight council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
How far ahead should we book?
The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.
Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?
Everything from canopy to discharge: the canopy, the plenum behind the filters, the filters, horizontal ducts, vertical risers, the fan and the discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Any part without access is noted.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
When do you clean the extract?
We work around your hours. Most kitchens book us overnight or at weekends, so you do not lose a service.
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.
Will my insurer ask for a TR19 certificate?
Grease-filled ducts can carry fire well beyond the kitchen. Many policies say the extract must be cleaned to TR19, and a claim may be reduced without proof, so keep every certificate.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Ventnor
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.

What else we do in Ventnor
What affects the quote in Ventnor
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- How big the system is
- Where the site is and how we reach it
One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.
Helping us quote
We can often survey from pictures. The most useful are:
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- A few general shots of the system
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
What we’re called out for in Ventnor
Cooking fat leaves the pan as a fine vapour. As the air cools on its way through the duct, the fat condenses and sticks, building a layer that gets thicker with every service. Filters catch some of it, but never all.
Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Grease smells coming from the extract
- Heavy grease build-up inside the duct runs
- A system with no record of a TR19 clean
- Extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit
Rylstone Manor, about 2.6 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses near Ventnor; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.
Questions to ask before booking
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Whether VAT is included
- What hours they’ll be on site
- Whether the price is fixed
Different parts, different methods
Ductwork and risers
Vertical risers carry the air up through the building, and grease often collects at the bottom of them. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.
Extract fan and discharge
The fan pulls the air through the whole system, and grease that gets past everything else ends up on its blades. We isolate it, open it up and degrease it.
Kitchen extract cleaning around Ventnor
Ventnor is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Look up Ventnor on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 27 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 6 takeaways across Ventnor and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever food is cooked under a canopy, the extract above it gathers grease and needs cleaning on a schedule. Kitchens in Ventnor get their food hygiene inspections from Isle of Wight council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Catherine's Church or elsewhere in Ventnor, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Catherine's School or anywhere near Ventnor, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
