Kitchen Extract Cleaning in Ovington
TR19 grease cleaning of complete kitchen extract systems, from canopy to discharge for businesses, landlords and public buildings in Ovington. BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease.

- Ductwork thick with old, hardened grease
How we handle kitchen extract cleaning in Ovington
A kitchen extract system is far more than the canopy you can see. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. If you have a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer and fat running down the canopy edge, we can put it right, from vertical risers, horizontal duct runs and canopies and hoods onwards. Need a TR19 duct cleaning contractor for Ovington? Duct Doctor has covered London and the South East since 2009, with a certificate and photo report after every clean.
Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: grease readings at set points tell us where the heaviest deposits are, and the same readings after the clean show the result.
Somewhere as small as Ovington, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Looking after it afterwards
So the system stays in good health:
- Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit
- Do not let the canopy gutters overflow
- Book the next clean before the date on the report
- Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
When the clean is finished, grease readings are taken again at the same points, giving you before and after readings alongside the pictures. Your TR19 certificate is then issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
Wipe the canopy down regularly and empty grease troughs or collection points. A daily wipe is not a deep clean, but it helps between visits.

Leave it or put it right?
There’s no law that names TR19, but the Fire Safety Order 2005 still applies. The responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. TR19 is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
You will not find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we will talk you through it.

What kitchen extract cleaning can’t fix
Kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:
- A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
- A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
- Blocked drains from a neglected grease trap (a separate service)
If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

For landlords and multi-site operators
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
Ovington kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s data shows about 4 pubs and bars registered in and around Ovington, up to about a mile and a half out. A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Ovington sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Environmental health officers from Winchester City council inspect food businesses in Ovington. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Common problems we fix in Ovington
The type of cooking changes the amount of grease. Fryers, grills and open flames throw much more fat into the extract than gentler cooking, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
- Grease dripping from the canopy or filters
- Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
- Grease smells coming from the extract
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Perins School or anywhere near Ovington, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- Whether the quote shows VAT
The process
There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Ovington.
- First comes a survey of the whole system, by photos or a visit.
- We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
- With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- Finally the system is re-tested and photographed, and the certificate and report follow.
How to prepare
- Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
- Move anything stored near the system
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
Advice
Your questions about kitchen extract cleaning in Ovington
Which fire authority looks after Ovington?
It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Ovington. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.
Who inspects food businesses in Ovington?
The local authority for Ovington is Winchester City council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?
We’re members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system needs. The report from each visit recommends the next date.
What’s TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Usually, yes. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and we normally come back within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
The report shows them clearly. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
What happens to the waste?
Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. We do not leave it behind.
How the job changes from site to site
Ductwork and risers
Horizontal runs collect grease as the air slows and cools. We open access panels along the route and clean each section, recording any that cannot be reached.
Extract fan and discharge
At the end of the system is the discharge, which can collect grease and stain the surface around it. It’s cleaned as far as safe access allows, and any limits are recorded.
