How we handle grease trap cleaning in Ovington

A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. We empty the built-up grease and food solids and the chambers and baffles cleaned, and check the trap is working properly. The work covers school and care home kitchens, kitchen waste pipes and restaurants and takeaways, and common reasons people get in touch are a bad smell from the sinks or drains and a routine grease trap service.

Work in a small place like Ovington starts with agreeing a date and access.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

When to call us in Ovington

Waste cooking oil poured down the sink fills a grease trap far faster than washing-up. Small amounts soon build up.

Clients normally contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Gurgling from the sink waste
  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
  • Sinks that drain slowly

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Perins School or anywhere near Ovington, the holidays are the time for a deep clean or a grease trap clean.

Commercial kitchens in Ovington

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 pubs and bars in and around Ovington, up to about a mile and a half out. Any of them serving food has a kitchen that collects grease out of sight and drains that need protecting. Kitchens in Ovington get their food hygiene inspections from Winchester City council. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record.

Hinton Ampner House, about 3.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses around Ovington; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like St John's Rooms And Chapel about 4.9 miles west, deep cleans and grease trap visits are planned so meals still go out.

Grease interceptors

Grease interceptors are larger units that serve busier kitchens. They hold more grease and solids but they still need cleaning.

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Kitchens that fry and wash up all day fill their traps quickly. They often need the most frequent cleaning.

Ovington questions

Can you get to a site in Ovington?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Ovington is covered. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Which council inspects kitchens in Ovington?

Kitchens in Ovington are inspected by Winchester City council’s environmental health officers. Inspection results feed into the food hygiene rating published by the Food Standards Agency.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Anything that proves the system is maintained: reports, certificates, photos and your own cleaning or check logs. A single log for each site works best.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Does the report say when we need you again?

Yes. How often depends on use and condition, and we explain the reasoning on the report.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

Do you deal with blocked drains beyond the grease trap?

Our service covers the grease trap itself. Where the problem is further down the drain, we will say so and suggest a drainage contractor.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Ovington

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Report slow or smelly sinks early
  • Get food waste into the bin, not the sink
  • Hot water only moves grease further down
  • Keep waste oil out of the drains

Collect waste cooking oil separately rather than pouring it down the sink and the trap will not fill as quickly. It’s the single easiest way to help.

Slow sinks and a bad smell are early warnings. Acting at this stage usually prevents a blockage later.

Honest limits

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Grease set hard in the drain run
  • Broken pipework below ground
  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Inline grease traps
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Restaurants and takeaways

How the visit works

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, and that takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Ovington.

  1. We agree a time when the sinks are not needed.
  2. The trap is opened up and checked.
  3. Built-up grease and food waste are taken out.
  4. The inside, baffles and outlet are cleaned.
  5. We close it up, check it drains and suggest when it needs cleaning again.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
