Common problems we fix in Chobham

The type of cooking changes the amount of grease. Fryers, grills and open flames throw much more fat into the extract than gentler cooking, which is why grease readings matter more than the calendar.

Look out for these warning signs:

  • Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Missing paperwork after a change of operator
  • An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19

Where a hall near Church of St Lawrence, or anywhere in Chobham, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included
  • Whether a survey comes first

Questions to ask before you book

Commercial kitchen extraction cleaning in Chobham

Not sure when the extract was last cleaned, or by whom? Just call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with photos of the canopy and filters, and we will come back with a fixed price for the work in Chobham, usually within one working day. We’re often asked to deal with a system with no record of a TR19 clean and grease dripping from the canopy or filters, across extract fans, plenums and filters and horizontal duct runs. Whether you call it kitchen extract cleaning, TR19 cleaning or kitchen duct cleaning, it’s the job we do every week across Surrey.

Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: grease readings at set points tell us where the heaviest deposits are, and readings afterwards go into your report.

Around a smaller place like Chobham, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Different parts, different methods

Extract fan and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to cut noise, and they hold grease. We clean what can be reached and note anything that cannot.

Grease filters

Baffle filters are cleaned as part of every TR19 clean, and put back so they seat correctly. Damaged ones are noted on the report.

What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing
  • Faulty fire dampers in the duct

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Canopies and hoods
  • Discharge points
  • Extract fans
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Plenums and filters
  • Vertical risers

Leave it or put it right?

Grease that is left only gets thicker. Under BESA guidance, grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from photos or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too in Chobham and across Surrey. Work can be phased by floor, building or site around the people who use them.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Clean the grease filters regularly between TR19 cleans
  • Flag any change in how the extract sounds or works
  • Clean grease off the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is lit

The kitchen is left clean and ready for the next service. Grease and dirty water are collected and taken off site, so you can start cooking as normal.

Book the next clean before the last one runs out. BESA guidance links the minimum interval to daily cooking hours, so a change in hours may mean a change in interval, and grease readings will show it.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, including protection sheets, the right tools and access kit. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Around Chobham, access is typically simpler than in a town centre, though gates and roof access are worth mentioning.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We typically come back within one working day.

FAQs for Chobham

Who is the fire and rescue service for Chobham?

It’s Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Chobham. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Is Chobham within the area you cover?

Yes, Chobham is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

How long does a kitchen extract clean take?

Length of duct, grease levels and access all affect it. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. In practice, TR19 is how kitchens show they’re managing grease, and many insurers ask for proof of it.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

Are you a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member?

We’re members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Will the clean disrupt our service?

The clean is done when the kitchen is not cooking, so evenings, overnight, early mornings and weekends are all options. Equipment needs to be off and cool before any work starts.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together on one programme. Every site has its own report.
