Kitchen extract cleaning for sites in Bosham

Kitchen extract cleaning in Bosham

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. We are often asked to deal with an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19 and a TR19 certificate needed for the insurer, on canopies and hoods, vertical risers and plenums and filters. Kitchens in Bosham book us for TR19 cleaning for three reasons: the insurer asked, the EHO asked, or the canopy is dripping. Either way, the answer is the same: a proper clean and the paperwork to match.

BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

Work in a small place like Bosham starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Bosham: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Bosham?

Yes, Bosham is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Does the sea air around Bosham make a difference to kitchen extract cleaning?

It can, as Bosham is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on metal. A fan housing that’s rusting near the coast can fail sooner, so it’s worth catching early.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

TR19 isn’t written into law, but the responsible person still has a legal duty under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to TR19 as the standard, and many policies require it.

What accreditations do you hold?

We are members of Vent Hygiene Elite, the scheme run by BESCA, and we clean to BESA TR19® Grease. We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 too, and we are fully insured.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Kitchen extract cleaning in Bosham: the local picture

The coast is only about 2 miles from Bosham. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. The Food Standards Agency lists about 8 pubs and bars and about 3 hotels and guest houses as registered food businesses across Bosham and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. The fire and rescue service for Bosham is West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like St Richard's Hospital about 3.8 miles east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Bosham Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. For kitchens close to Bosham station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Bosham is about 3 miles west of Chichester, in West Sussex. Bosham gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Bosham is one of 371 towns, villages and districts in West Sussex where we work for kitchen extract cleaning. For sites nearby, see our Portsmouth page, about 10 miles away.

Work in PO18 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Bosham

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

Different parts, different methods

Ductwork and risers

Risers take the extract up through floors to roof level, and grease often collects at the bottom of them. They’re cleaned through access points along their height.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. We clean both inside and out, with the filter housing cleaned too.

The process

Each visit runs to the same pattern: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and leave you the report. On site, the work takes a few hours for a small kitchen, longer for a large system. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Bosham.

  1. You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
  2. We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
  3. On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
  4. Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Related advice

Between visits

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Tell us when the extract starts to drip or smell
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Keep to the recommended cleaning interval
  • Keep the baffle filters clean

You leave with a date for the next clean, based on your cooking hours and the grease we measured. We can put the system on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly plan, so the date isn’t missed.

Keep the fan on throughout service. Cooking with the extract off lets grease and heat settle in the canopy, and the next clean has more to do.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Extraction that can’t cope with the cooking because of its design
  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Fire dampers that will not close (that needs damper testing and remedials)

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Why it’s worth doing now in Bosham

TR19® isn’t law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is. The responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and in a kitchen that means keeping extract grease under control. TR19 is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Bosham rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you will get one fixed quote.
