Grease trap cleaning for sites in Whitesmith

About our grease trap cleaning in Whitesmith

Think of the grease trap as a filter for the kitchen’s drains. When it’s looked after, you hardly know it’s there but left too long, it causes trouble. A regular clean keeps it healthy. The work covers restaurants and takeaways, pot wash sinks and under-sink grease traps, and people most often call us about a blocked kitchen drain caused by grease and an under-sink unit that needs regular emptying.

Rural kitchens may drain to a septic tank or a private drain rather than straight into a public sewer, so keeping fat out with a working grease trap matters even more.

A written report with photos follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

How the visit works

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Whitesmith and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.

Advice

What your team can do, and what needs us

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Common problems we fix in Whitesmith

A busy kitchen in Whitesmith, or anywhere else, fills its grease trap faster. A trap that suited a quieter kitchen can fill very quickly when trade picks up.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Drains that gurgle and bubble
  • An under-sink trap that keeps filling up
  • Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
  • Foul odours from the grease trap

Where a church or community hall near The Parish Church, or anywhere in Whitesmith, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event.

Our hiring checklist

How we price grease trap cleaning

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before any work starts.

What a clean won’t put right

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what grease trap cleaning won’t do:

  • A grease trap that is too small for the kitchen
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What the work covers

  • School and care home kitchens
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Inline grease traps
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Kitchen waste pipes

Aftercare tips

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:

  • Don’t rely on hot water to clear grease
  • Act on gurgling or smelly drains
  • Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them

Collect waste cooking oil separately rather than pouring it down the sink, and the trap will stay cleaner for longer. It makes a real difference.

If the sinks are slow or smelly, the trap may be full. Acting at this stage normally prevents a blockage later.

Whitesmith: your questions answered

Will you come out to Whitesmith?

Yes, Whitesmith is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can school kitchens in Whitesmith be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. With about 2 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Whitesmith, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we’ll plan around them.

Where does the grease from the trap go?

The waste leaves with us. Nothing greasy is left on site when we go.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

How far ahead should we book?

The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes usually come back within one working day, and emergencies are covered by our 24/7 line.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites as one programme. Every site has its own report.

What happens if a grease trap isn’t cleaned?

An overfull trap lets grease into the drains. There it hardens on the pipe walls and causes blockages. Keeping the trap clean stops that happening.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. The interval depends on how much the system is used and what we find, and we explain the reasoning on the report.

What the work involves, part by part

Grease interceptors

An interceptor works on the same principle as a smaller trap. Cooling water lets grease rise and solids settle.

Inline grease traps

Access to an inline trap can be in a floor or cupboard. We check how to reach it before the visit.
