Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Upminster

Fats, oils and grease are the main cause of blocked kitchen drains. Down the line, they can add to fatbergs in the sewer. A grease trap that is emptied and cleaned regularly keeps them out of the drains. The work covers inline grease traps, pot wash sinks and school and care home kitchens, and common reasons people get in touch are an interceptor full of grease and solids and a blocked kitchen drain caused by grease.

Across London, many commercial kitchens are compact and run long hours, and grease builds up behind and under equipment, on walls and ceilings, and in the drains. For a kitchen in Upminster, the work is usually done overnight, between the last service and the first.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes anything from under an hour to a few hours, depending on the trap. Most London sites can’t stop for the day, so work in Upminster is normally done overnight, early in the morning or at weekends.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We typically come back within one working day.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.

When to call us in Upminster

Fats, oils and grease from cooking and washing up go down the sink. In the trap, they cool and separate and the grease layer grows.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • A small trap that fills too quickly
  • An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning
  • Sinks that drain slowly
  • A bad smell from the sinks or drains

Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like Upminster Junior School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • If they look at the system before pricing
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part

Questions to ask before booking

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in Upminster

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • The times the site is available
  • The size of the system
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.

What to send for a quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Send what you can of the following:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Your last certificate, test record or report

Getting a quote does not take long. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Different parts, different methods

School, care home and staff kitchens

Kitchens that serve set mealtimes fill their traps more steadily. A regular interval suits them well.

Grease interceptors

Grease interceptors are larger units that serve busier kitchens. They hold more grease and solids but they still need cleaning.

Questions from Upminster

Can you work in school kitchens in Upminster during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Around Upminster, the Food Standards Agency lists about 21 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

Can you come to Upminster after we close?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. When you call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, mention when the site is quiet.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. You get a written report with pictures after each visit, covering the work, any areas we couldn’t access and the recommended next date. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Do you take the waste away?

The waste leaves with us. You’re not left with anything to dispose of after the visit.

Does the law say we must follow TR19?

No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and TR19® is the benchmark for showing that grease in the extract is under control.

How far ahead should we book?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. The work is kept contained and clean down when we finish.

Grease trap cleaning in Upminster: local notes

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 137 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 29 takeaways and sandwich shops within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Upminster. A grease trap in kitchens like these fills steadily and needs emptying before it overflows. It’s Havering council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Upminster. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day. Compact London kitchens collect grease in tight corners, which an overnight deep clean can reach.

Where a church or community hall near Church of St Laurence, or anywhere in Upminster, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event. If you run a kitchen near Upminster station with long trading hours, grease builds up faster behind equipment and in the trap.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Broken pipework below ground
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
  • A trap undersized for the amount of cooking

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.
