Grease trap cleaning for sites in The Chart

Grease trap cleaning for kitchens and businesses in The Chart

Once a trap is full, grease passes straight through. Further down the pipe, the grease cools and hardens and the result is blocked drains and bad smells. A trap that’s cleaned regularly keeps grease where it belongs. We’re often asked to deal with gurgling from the sink waste and a routine grease trap service, on pot wash sinks, under-sink grease traps and inline grease traps.

In a village or hamlet like The Chart, commercial kitchens are few, perhaps a pub, a school or a care home. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Common questions in The Chart

Which environmental health team covers The Chart?

In The Chart, it’s Tandridge council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.

Can the work in The Chart be done at night or at weekends?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in The Chart can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

Anything we can’t reach goes on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

What problems does a full grease trap cause?

An overfull trap lets grease into the drains. There it hardens on the pipe walls until they block. Regular cleaning prevents it.

Which records should we keep?

Every certificate and report from each visit, kept together in your maintenance log, along with your own cleaning log. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.

For landlords and multi-site operators

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

What happens if it’s left?

A smelly, overflowing trap attracts pests. A clean trap is less of an attraction, alongside good kitchen hygiene. A fault that closes a site in a village like The Chart affects everyone who depends on it.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Wipe grease off pans before washing them
  • Hot water only moves grease further down
  • Tell us if your menu or hours change
  • Keep strainers in every sink

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Sink strainers help catch solids so less solid waste gets through.

Setting regular cleans takes the guesswork out. We agree the timing with you.

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by grease trap cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not put right:

  • A leaking sink waste or trap connection
  • Drains that are cracked or have collapsed
  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

What the work covers

  • Under-sink grease traps
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Inline grease traps
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Kitchen waste pipes

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Commercial kitchens in The Chart

There are about 6 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 8 takeaways across The Chart and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half), according to the Food Standards Agency’s register. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. In The Chart, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Tandridge council. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.

If you run a care home or healthcare kitchen near The Chart (the nearest hospital is Tandridge Priory, about 0.6 miles north-west), a grease trap on a set schedule avoids a blocked drain mid-service. Chartwell, about 1.9 miles east, is one of the historic houses around The Chart; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps. Hall kitchens near St Andrew's or elsewhere in The Chart may have older sinks and drains, so a grease trap check is worth adding to a deep clean.

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, and that takes less than an hour for many under-sink units. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to The Chart and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We agree a time when the sinks are not needed.
  2. We open the trap and look at its condition.
  3. Built-up grease and food waste are taken out.
  4. The inside, baffles and outlet are cleaned.
  5. The trap is closed, tested and the next clean discussed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Get a fixed quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

How we price grease trap cleaning

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How many systems or sites are involved

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before we start.

What we need to know

When you contact us, these details help:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to

If you need grease trap cleaning in The Chart, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us. Let us know the site type and the opening hours, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. We usually send a fixed quote within one working day.
