Grease trap cleaning in Shoeburyness, done properly
Every trap is different. Under-sink units are small and fill quickly and larger traps hold more grease before they fill. We assess the trap and how fast it fills before suggesting how often it needs cleaning. Common call-outs are for a larger grease trap that needs emptying and gurgling drains in the kitchen, on restaurants and takeaways, inline grease traps and pot wash sinks.
Grease traps fill up with fat and food scraps, and once it’s full, fat passes into the drains. Regular emptying and cleaning stops the smells and blockages that follow.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Why it’s worth doing now in Shoeburyness
In Shoeburyness, as anywhere, grease trap cleaning is a short, routine visit. A blocked drain is an emergency and normally at the worst moment. An inspector or insurer will want to see recent records, so it makes sense to have them ready.
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

How the job changes from site to site
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
We time visits to avoid service so the kitchen isn’t disrupted.
Under-sink grease traps
An under-sink trap is out of sight. A full one shows itself with a slow, smelly sink.
How it works
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Send us pictures of the system and we can plan most of a visit in Shoeburyness before we arrive.
- We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
- Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
- We take out the layer of fat, oil and grease and any solids.
- Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
- The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.
Before we arrive
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Move anything stored near the system
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

When it’s something else
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:
- A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen
- Grease set hard in the drain run
- Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 32 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 19 sandwich bars and takeaways in Shoeburyness and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Fat from washing up sets hard in pipes, and kitchens like these produce plenty of it. Environmental health officers from Southend-On-Sea council inspect food businesses in Shoeburyness. The state of floors, drains and hard-to-reach corners all feeds into the inspection. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.

- A bad smell from the sinks or drains
- Gurgling drains in the kitchen
- Grease setting in the kitchen pipework
- A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time
If you run a café or takeaway near Shoeburyness station, a deep clean overnight means the kitchen opens as normal next morning.

Common questions in Shoeburyness
Can you work in Shoeburyness outside opening hours?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. Your customers, staff or residents in Shoeburyness needn’t be disturbed. Just call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your opening times and we will plan around them.
Can a school kitchen in Shoeburyness be done out of term time?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Around Shoeburyness, the Food Standards Agency lists about 10 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
How long does a grease trap clean take?
The size and state of the trap make the difference, but a clean generally takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. We will confirm when we quote.
Do you cover Shoeburyness?
Yes. Shoeburyness is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.
What is TR19?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Not normally. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits so parts stay in use.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. One number covers all your sites in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.
What happens to the waste?
It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.
Between visits
So the system stays in good health:
- Never pour used oil down the sink
- Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
- Don’t wait for a blockage to book a clean
- Wipe grease off pans before washing them
The sinks are ready to use as soon as we’ve finished. We run water through to check it drains before we go.
A fixed cleaning interval means the trap never gets overfull. We agree the timing with you.
