Grease trap cleaning in Shaw, done properly
A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. We empty the built-up grease and food solids, clean the inside and the baffles and the trap checked before we leave. If you’re dealing with washing-up water that won’t drain away and a small trap that fills too quickly, we can put it right, from pot wash sinks, kitchen waste pipes and restaurants and takeaways onwards.
For a kitchen near Shaw, deep cleans are booked around opening hours, often on a closed day, and the journey is planned ahead.
We’ve been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Shaw kitchens: local notes
Food Standards Agency data counts about 92 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 25 takeaways within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Shaw. Wherever they wash pans and plates, fat heads for the drain unless a trap catches it. In Shaw, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from West Berkshire council. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record.
Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned. If you look after a hall kitchen near Parish Church of St Mary or anywhere in Shaw, a deep clean between busy seasons is easier than a scramble before a big event. If you serve passing trade near Newbury Racecourse station, a grease trap on a regular schedule keeps the drains running through busy weeks.
Shaw is about 1 mile north-east of Newbury, in West Berkshire. What’s near Shaw

For rail, the closest station is Newbury Racecourse station, about 0.8 miles south-east. Nearby you will also find Donnington Castle (1.3 miles north-west) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (1 mile east). For a walk, there’s Audrey's Meadow.
Between visits
Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:
- Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
- Wipe grease off pans before washing them
- Hot water only moves grease further down
- Never pour used oil down the sink
Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Use strainers in the sink plugholes before they reach the trap.
Slow sinks and a bad smell are early warnings. Acting at this stage usually prevents a blockage down the line.

What happens if it’s left?
A dirty grease trap smells. Rotting food and grease give off foul odours that can reach the kitchen and beyond. Cleaning it removes the cause. Around Shaw, a kitchen or building out of action is missed straight away.

Baffles and outlets
Every clean includes the baffles, inlet and outlet so the trap works as it should.
Under-sink grease traps
Under-sink units are easy to forget. A full one shows itself with a slow, smelly sink.
What affects the quote in Shaw
Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
- Travel, parking and unloading
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
What we need to know
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Shaw
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Shaw?
Kitchens in Shaw are inspected by West Berkshire council’s environmental health officers. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
Do you work in villages like Shaw?
Yes. Shaw is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
What should go in our maintenance log?
Every certificate and report from each visit, kept together in your maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.
How often should a grease trap be cleaned?
It varies. We look at how full the trap is and how quickly it fills and we will advise on timing.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.
How much notice should we give?
Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We normally quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
Which grease traps does the service cover?
Both under-sink and inline traps, plus interceptors. A photo helps us see what’s fitted and we will confirm.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and the emergency line covers the rest.
What we do, step by step
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap, and we clear up before we go. We plan the journey to Shaw and bring what the job is likely to need.
- First, we find the trap and look at its connections.
- Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
- We empty out the fat, oil, grease and solids.
- We clean every part of the inside.
- We refit it, run water through and remove the waste.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the space around the work
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
Get a fixed quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
Advice
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Staff cleaning versus specialist work
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
