Kitchen extract cleaning in RG14: how it works
Any kitchen we clean in RG14 gets exactly the same specification as everywhere else we work. The job starts with a survey and grease readings, then works through canopy, plenum, filters, ductwork, fan and discharge. You get a TR19 certificate and a photo report at the end. Common call-outs are for an extract that no longer clears the smoke and ductwork thick with old, hardened grease, on canopies and hoods, discharge points and horizontal duct runs.
Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system.
- We survey the system, from your pictures or on site, canopy to discharge.
- Grease thickness is measured and the price is fixed before work starts.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
- We re-test, photograph and send your certificate and photo report.
How we quote
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before any work starts.

How to get a quote
Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Then ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
What’s near Newbury
Around Newbury, our work takes us to kitchens and buildings near St Nicolas Church, Victoria Park and St Bartholomew's School and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Diamond Tap (less than half a mile north-east), St Nicolas C.E. Junior School (within half a mile south) and St Bartholomew's School (0.6 miles south-west). Newbury has its own railway station: Newbury station. Nearby you will also find Donnington Castle (1.6 miles north-west) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (1.5 miles east). Open spaces near Newbury include Audrey's Meadow.
Kitchen extracts across RG14
Across RG14, from Newbury, Speenhamland and Shaw outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.
Across England, including RG14, the responsible person has a legal duty to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book.
Newbury: Church and community hall kitchens, near St Nicolas Church or anywhere around Newbury, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as West Berkshire Community Hospital (about 1.5 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Common problems we fix in RG14
A kitchen in RG14 builds up grease in the same places as any other: long horizontal runs, bends, the base of risers and around the fan. Cooler sections of duct collect the most.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- An extract that has never been cleaned to TR19
- Proof of cleaning requested by an insurer
- An extract that no longer clears the smoke
- Rancid smells from grease in the duct
What affects the quote in RG14
We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:
- The condition of the system
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The scale of the work
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
- Any previous report or certificate
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
What happens if it’s left?
Grease that is left only gets thicker. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. The longer it’s left, the bigger the job becomes.
What your quote should include
- Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Exactly which parts of the system are covered
What your team can do, and what needs us
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.
Questions from RG14
Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?
TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve dealt with extract grease.
Do you work in RG14?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, RG14 included.
How far ahead should we book?
Book as early as you can for planned work, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
They’re marked on the report. In ductwork, new access panels are often the answer, and we can fit those.
What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?
That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.
What accreditations do you hold?
We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 sit alongside that, and we are fully insured.
