About our grease trap cleaning in Ockham

Kitchens in Ockham use us for grease trap cleaning, whether it’s an under-sink unit or a larger inline trap. Visits are booked around your service so washing up isn’t interrupted. Typical jobs include a blocked kitchen drain caused by grease and a full, neglected grease trap, across school and care home kitchens, kitchen waste pipes and under-sink grease traps.

Somewhere as small as Ockham, the kitchens that need a deep clean are typically a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Wherever there is one, it needs its grease trap and hard-to-reach areas kept clean.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Keeping the system healthy

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep strainers in every sink
  • Book trap cleans at a set interval
  • Collect waste cooking oil separately
  • Report slow or smelly sinks early

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Sink strainers help catch solids before they reach the trap.

If the kitchen has got busier, the trap fills faster. Shortening the cleaning interval now stops it overflowing.

Why act early in Ockham

Once the trap is full, grease heads for the drain. It hardens on the pipe walls, until the drain blocks. Regular trap cleaning beats dealing with a blockage. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.

Grease trap cleaning in Ockham: local notes

Environmental health officers from Guildford council inspect food businesses in Ockham. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. A cleaning log that includes deep cleans and grease trap visits shows the work is planned. At about 21 miles from central London, Ockham sits well inside the area we cover. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near All Saints' Church or elsewhere in Ockham, a deep clean and an emptied grease trap before a busy season of events are worth booking. For schools such as Ripley Court School, deep cleans and grease trap work are usually booked for the holidays.

How we price grease trap cleaning

The survey tells us what the work involves. The main factors are:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • The times the site is available
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Any previous report or certificate
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

If you need grease trap cleaning in Ockham, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, plus pictures or the previous report if they’re to hand. A fixed quote usually follows within one working day.

What we’re called out for in Ockham

In Ockham, as everywhere, grease traps are easy to forget. Tucked away under the sink or below the floor it’s often left until there’s a problem.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning
  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • A full, neglected grease trap
  • Sinks that drain slowly

Byfleet Manor, about 2.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses around Ockham; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether a survey comes first
  • Proof of insurance
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • What hours they’ll be on site

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Ockham

Which environmental health team covers Ockham?

In Ockham, it’s Guildford council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Inspection results feed into the food hygiene rating published by the Food Standards Agency.

Will you come out to Ockham?

Yes, Ockham is part of our area, however small the site. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. It’s the record insurers and inspectors ask to see: a dated report with photos, listing the work and any areas we couldn’t reach.

How much does grease trap cleaning cost?

The price depends on the trap and the schedule. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will quote so you know the cost up front.

How much notice should we give?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are fully insured. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor, for sites that check contractor safety.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

What happens if a grease trap isn’t cleaned?

Once it’s full, grease passes straight through. It then sets in the drains, causing blockages and smells, and can add to fatbergs in the sewer.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber
  • Sewer problems outside the premises
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work

  • Pot wash sinks
  • School and care home kitchens
  • Inline grease traps
  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Under-sink grease traps

The process

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Ockham and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
  4. We clean the chambers, baffles and connections.
  5. We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
