Grease trap cleaning in Shere

When something else is needed

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor
  • Drains that need jetting rather than trap cleaning
  • Plumbing leaks around the sink

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What the work covers

  • School and care home kitchens
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • Inline grease traps
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Restaurants and takeaways

Grease trap cleaning in Shere, done properly

A clean trap means flowing drains and no foul smells. The fat, oil, grease and solids are taken out and the chambers and baffles cleaned, and check the trap is working properly. Typical jobs include a small trap that fills too quickly and drains clogged with fat, on restaurants and takeaways, pot wash sinks and inline grease traps.

Rural kitchens may drain to a septic tank or a private drain rather than straight into a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

The process

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Shere, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. We empty out the fat, oil, grease and solids.
  4. The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
  5. The trap is refitted, tested with water and the waste taken away.

Advice

Grease trap cleaning in Shere: local notes

The FSA’s data shows about 5 pubs, bars and clubs registered within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Shere. Where they run a kitchen, it needs the same deep cleaning and grease trap care as any restaurant. Food hygiene inspections in Shere are the job of Guildford council’s environmental health team. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. Photos and dates from each deep clean make a useful record.

If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Hatchlands Park is about 2.6 miles north), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning. For schools such as Shere CofE Aided Infant School, deep cleans and grease trap work are usually booked for the holidays. Hall and church kitchens, near The Church of St James or anywhere around Shere, are used by many hands, and periodic deep cleans and grease trap visits keep them in order.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

How the job changes from site to site

Inline grease traps

Inline traps may be under a floor panel or in a cupboard. We ask about access when we quote.

Grease interceptors

Interceptors separate grease the same way, on a larger scale. Grease floats and solids sink.

Why deal with it now?

Smells from a neglected trap are hard to ignore. Decomposing waste in the trap smells bad that can reach the kitchen and beyond. Cleaning it removes the cause. Somewhere as small as Shere, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Looking after it afterwards

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Avoid pouring boiling water down to shift grease
  • Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule
  • Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
  • Collect waste cooking oil separately

Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Sink strainers help catch solids so less solid waste gets through.

If the sinks are slow or smelly, the trap may be full. Acting at this stage normally prevents a blockage down the line.

Common questions in Shere

Is Shere within the area you cover?

Yes. Shere is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you work at weekends in Shere?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Shere can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.

Do you deal with blocked drains beyond the grease trap?

Our service covers the grease trap itself. Where the problem is further down the drain, we will say so so you can call a drainage contractor.

What’s TR19?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Why does a grease trap need regular cleaning?

Once it’s full, grease passes straight through. The grease hardens in the pipes, leading to blocked drains and smells, and can add to fatbergs in the sewer.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

How long does a grease trap clean take?

Most grease trap cleans take a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor including checking it drains. It’s booked when the sinks are not needed.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

We price it once we know the trap and how often it needs cleaning. Just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will quote before any work starts.
