Grease trap cleaning near Greensted

Grease trap cleaning in Greensted, done properly

Smells from the sink, gurgling drains or slow drainage all point to the grease trap. In Greensted, as everywhere we work, our team empties and cleans the trap and run water through to check it drains. The work covers under-sink grease traps, kitchen waste pipes and inline grease traps, and the jobs we see most are a routine grease trap service and drains that gurgle and bubble.

In rural areas, a kitchen may drain to a private system rather than a public sewer, and fat getting past a grease trap can cause real trouble there.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we are fully insured.

The process

Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit, and we clear up before we go. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Greensted, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We start by finding the trap and checking its inlet and outlet.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
  4. The inside, baffles and pipe connections are cleaned.
  5. Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.

Different parts, different methods

Grease interceptors

An interceptor works on the same principle as a smaller trap. Cooling water lets grease rise and solids settle.

Under-sink grease traps

We empty and clean under-sink traps without disrupting the rest of the kitchen and check the seal on the lid.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we can quote for the whole system.

What we’re called out for in Greensted

Hot water and detergent carry grease further than you’d expect. When it cools, the grease hardens in the pipework or the drain.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • A routine grease trap service
  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time
  • Drains clogged with fat

Healthcare kitchens cook through the year, so a deep clean has to be fitted around meals; St. Margaret's Hospital, about 4.4 miles west, is the nearest hospital to Greensted.

What your quote should include

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • Whether they’re fully insured

Questions to ask before you book

Looking after it afterwards

So the system stays in good health:

  • Get food waste into the bin, not the sink
  • Use strainers in the sink plugholes
  • Don’t rely on hot water to clear grease
  • Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule

The waste we remove leaves with us. There’s no greasy waste left on site when we are done.

An overfull trap lets grease pass. Cleaning it before it’s full keeps grease out of the drains and saves a call-out for a blocked drain.

When it’s something else

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen
  • Sewer problems outside the premises
  • Collapsed or damaged drains, which need a drainage contractor

If you are not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Greensted: your questions answered

Which environmental health team covers Greensted?

Kitchens in Greensted are inspected by Epping Forest council’s environmental health officers. Inspection results feed into the food hygiene rating published by the Food Standards Agency.

Do you cover smaller places like Greensted?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. We work across South East England and London, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Every site has its own report.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

No two traps are quite the same, so we quote once we know what you have. We give you a fixed price, typically within one working day.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full insurance, and we have been trading since 2009.

Why does a grease trap need regular cleaning?

An overfull trap lets grease into the drains. There it hardens on the pipe walls and causes blockages. Regular cleaning prevents it.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

What’s the right interval for grease trap cleaning?

There’s no single answer. The interval depends on how quickly your trap fills, then suggest a schedule.
