Grease trap cleaning in East Lavant, done properly
A neglected grease trap stops doing its job. Fat sets in the pipes downstream and the result is blocked drains and bad smells. A trap that is cleaned regularly keeps grease where it belongs. Typical jobs include gurgling drains in the kitchen and a kitchen drain that smells, on school and care home kitchens, restaurants and takeaways and inline grease traps.
In a village or hamlet like East Lavant, commercial kitchens are few, perhaps a pub, a school or a care home. Wherever there is one, it needs its grease trap and hard-to-reach areas kept clean.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with photos of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

Between visits
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Hot water only moves grease further down
- Wipe grease off pans before washing them
- Use strainers in the sink plugholes
- Tell us if your menu or hours change
The sinks are ready to use as soon as we have finished. We run water through to check it drains before we leave.
Fat that escapes the trap hardens in the pipework. Once it’s there, it needs a drainage contractor to clear so prevention is the easier route.

Leave it or put it right?
Pouring hot water or chemicals down a slow drain is a common quick fix. That only moves the grease further down the pipe, where it sets again. Emptying and cleaning the trap deals with the source. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

East Lavant: your questions answered
Who inspects food businesses in East Lavant?
Food hygiene inspections in East Lavant are carried out by Chichester council. An officer may look behind equipment and at drains, so it pays to have the deep clean booked before those areas build up.
Can you get to a site in East Lavant?
Yes, East Lavant is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Are you fully insured?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor, for sites that check contractor safety.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. We work across South East England and London, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.
What if parts of the system cannot be reached?
We never leave them off the paperwork. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
What happens if a grease trap is not cleaned?
Grease and food waste build up until the trap stops working. Slow drains, bad smells and blockages follow.
Will I get paperwork for my records?
Yes. It’s your proof that the work was done: a written, dated record with photos of what we did and anything we couldn’t access.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Different parts, different methods
Baffles and outlets
We check the inlet, outlet and baffles at each clean so water flows freely.
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
Busy kitchens with lots of washing-up fill traps fast. A shorter cleaning interval usually suits them.
Managing agents and facilities teams in East Lavant
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across West Sussex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.
Commercial kitchens in East Lavant
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses across East Lavant and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever they cook, the kitchen and its drains need the same attention as a restaurant’s. In East Lavant, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Chichester council. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day.
Chichester Centre, about 1.5 miles south, is the nearest hospital to East Lavant; healthcare kitchens can’t stop cooking, so deep cleans are worked around meal times. School kitchens, at schools like Lavant CofE Primary School for example, typically have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed. Where a church or community hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in East Lavant, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event.

What we do, step by step
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near East Lavant, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
- The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
- Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
- Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
- Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.
