Ductwork cleaning across East Lavant

About our ductwork cleaning in East Lavant

Many ducts were installed with too few access doors. Where a section can’t be reached, TR19 expects it to be recorded on the report, and we can fit new access panels so it’s cleaned next time. An honest report beats a guess. If you have readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test and fat dripping from the ductwork, we can put it right, from multi-storey ducts, bends and junctions and horizontal duct runs onwards.

For a kitchen in or near East Lavant, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Questions from East Lavant

Can a school canteen extract in East Lavant be done out of term time?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 5 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of East Lavant, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Tell us your holiday dates and we will book the visit for when the site is empty.

Who inspects food businesses in East Lavant?

In East Lavant, it’s Chichester council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. Each run and riser is scraped and degreased, and test again when we are done.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.

What’s the cleaning interval for extract ductwork?

It follows the same interval as the whole extract, ranging from 3-monthly to 12-monthly. Grease thickness testing shows whether that’s often enough.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured, and the details are available on request.

What paperwork do you give after a duct clean?

Every clean comes with a photo report, and a full TR19 clean also comes with a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. File them with the fire risk assessment.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in East Lavant

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 8 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens across East Lavant and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Wherever those kitchens cook under a canopy, the horizontal runs and risers need cleaning as well as the hood. Environmental health officers from Chichester council inspect food businesses in East Lavant. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. East Lavant is covered by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

A hospital like Chichester Centre, about 1.5 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Lavant CofE Primary School or anywhere near East Lavant, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Between visits

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Don’t block access panels with shelving or stock
  • Keep your cleaning records together

Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the surrounding area is left clean. Waste grease and water are taken away.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval may need to shorten, and grease thickness testing will show it.

What happens on the day

The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to East Lavant run smoothly.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. Post-clean readings and photos go into the report, with any unreachable section listed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Clear the space around the work

How to get a quote

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Advice

What ductwork cleaning cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A failed fan motor at the end of the duct (a fan repair job)
  • Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
  • A damper stuck open in the duct

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think.

What happens if it’s left?

Booking the duct clean in East Lavant now keeps it a planned job. The work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and we work evenings, overnight and weekends. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before we start.

How the job changes from site to site

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Long ducts in larger buildings can mean several visits. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.

Access panels

Panels have to seal properly once they’re closed, so grease and air stay inside the duct. We’ll tell you if any panel needs replacing.

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in East Lavant

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • Grease leaking from duct joints
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Goodwood House is about 1.5 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • Proof of insurance
