Grease filter exchange for sites in The Flints

About our grease filter exchange in The Flints

Whether your canopy has baffle or mesh filters, they load up with grease. Once they’re clogged, airflow drops and the fan has to work harder. Regular exchange keeps the air moving. If you’re dealing with gaps where filters have been removed and weak extraction at the canopy, we can help, from mesh filters, island canopies and wall canopies onwards.

Somewhere as small as The Flints, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

Honest limits

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
  • A noisy or failed extract fan
  • Grease deep in the extract system

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How it works

Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, make the system safe, carry out the grease filter exchange, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Visits to a village like The Flints are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
  4. We fit clean filters and check they sit snugly in the housing.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down

Getting a quote

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Mesh filters

Older or smaller canopies often use mesh filters. We exchange them on the same basis as baffles.

School, care home and staff kitchens

A longer exchange interval may suit lighter cooking. We agree the schedule to match.

Kitchen extracts in The Flints

The Food Standards Agency lists about 4 pubs and bars as registered food businesses across The Flints and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Kitchens in The Flints get their food hygiene inspections from North Hertfordshire council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service covers The Flints. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Keech Hospice Care is the nearest hospital to The Flints, about 3.7 miles west. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary Magdalene or elsewhere in The Flints, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Looking after it afterwards

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Let us know if your cooking hours increase
  • Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
  • Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes

There’s no waiting: the canopy is ready as soon as the clean set is fitted. The dirty set leaves with us to be cleaned.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen in the ducts.

FAQs for The Flints

Which environmental health team covers The Flints?

Kitchens in The Flints are inspected by North Hertfordshire council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Who is the fire and rescue service for The Flints?

Fire safety enforcement in The Flints is handled by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

What’s TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Will you tell us when the next visit is due?

Yes. How often depends on use and condition and the report sets out why.

Do you deal with bent or broken filters?

Filters that no longer fit properly need replacing. We will show you which ones when we find them.

Do you work in The Flints?

Yes. We work in The Flints and the rest of Hertfordshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. To book, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.

Which grease filters does the service cover?

Both baffle filters and mesh filters are covered. We record the sizes and number of filters at the start so every set we bring fits.

Where do the greasy filters go?

We take them away to be cleaned and your staff don’t have to deal with them. Clean filters go straight in.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

Fixed quotes for grease filter exchange in The Flints

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • How big the system is
  • The number of sites or systems
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Helping us quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The site address and the type of premises

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and any previous report or certificate. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

When to call us in The Flints

Washing filters by hand does not always get them clean. Grease lodges deep in baffles and mesh and a sink wash rarely reaches it.

The symptoms we are asked about most include:

  • Drips falling from the filters onto equipment
  • Damaged filters letting grease past
  • Hand-washed filters that still look greasy
  • Staff short of time to wash filters

For schools such as Offley Endowed Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
