Grease filter exchange near Kingswood

How we handle grease filter exchange in Kingswood

Cleaning filters by hand takes staff time and is easy to put off. With a filter exchange, we bring a clean set and take the dirty one away, so the canopy is never left without filters. The work covers baffle filters, island canopies and school and hospital kitchens, and common reasons people get in touch are filter washing that keeps being missed and weak extraction at the canopy.

For a kitchen in or near Kingswood, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Questions from Kingswood

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Kingswood?

The local authority for Kingswood is Maidstone council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Can you get to a site in Kingswood?

Yes, Kingswood is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

How often should grease filters be changed?

The right interval depends on the kitchen. If filters are dripping or clogging before the next change, it’s too long, and we can change it.

Do you handle baffle and mesh filters?

Baffle and mesh filters are both covered. The first step is recording what you have and plan the exchange around them.

Do you clean filters as well as exchanging them?

Yes, filter cleaning is available. The first step is looking at the filters you have, as damaged ones may be better replaced.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Do you deal with bent or broken filters?

Each filter is looked at when we exchange. Any that are bent or damaged are flagged since a poor fit lets grease past.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. The report recommends when the next visit should be, based on use and what we found.

Different parts, different methods

Baffle filters

Baffle filters are robust and widely used in commercial canopies. They do not clean themselves, because the grease they collect builds up.

The plenum

With good filters, less grease ends up in the plenum, but it still needs cleaning as part of TR19.

Grease, kitchens and Kingswood

Look up Kingswood on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 3 restaurants, cafés and works canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Kingswood. Swapping filters on a schedule keeps kitchens like these drawing air properly. The fire and rescue service for Kingswood is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Kitchens in Kingswood get their food hygiene inspections from Maidstone council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Kingswood Church, or anywhere in Kingswood, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Kingswood is KIMS hospital, about 5.2 miles north-west.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Always run the extract while cooking
  • Keep canopy surfaces wiped down
  • Let us know if your cooking hours increase
  • Report damaged filters so they can be replaced

Your next visit is scheduled before we leave. If the kitchen gets busier, the interval can be shortened to keep up.

If filters are already dripping, they’re overdue. Changing them now reduces the fuel above the cooking and the plenum may need a clean as well.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Do you need grease filter exchange in Kingswood?

Hand-washed filters often come back still greasy. Grease lodges deep in baffles and mesh and a sink wash rarely reaches it.

The symptoms we’re asked about most are:

  • Bent or damaged filters that do not sit properly
  • Drips falling from the filters onto equipment
  • Hand-washed filters that still look greasy
  • A canopy running with filters missing

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Kingswood Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Questions to ask before you book

  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify

Why it’s worth doing now in Kingswood

A filter exchange is a few minutes; a choked extract affects a whole service. It’s one of the simplest parts of looking after the system, and one of the easiest to let slip. In a small place like Kingswood, a system that fails can take a site out of use.

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before we start.

What grease filter exchange can’t fix

We won’t sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach
  • A heavily greased plenum or canopy, which needs cleaning to TR19
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes a few minutes per canopy, longer for a large kitchen with several canopies. Somewhere as small as Kingswood, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. We count and measure the filters in every canopy.
  2. We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
  3. Each visit starts with the used filters being removed.
  4. Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.
