What grease filter exchange cannot fix

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change will not reach
  • A noisy or failed extract fan

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Grease filter exchange in Hinksey Hill, done properly

Washing filters in the kitchen sink is messy and easily missed on a busy week. With a filter exchange, we bring a clean set and take the dirty one away and the canopy is refilled straight away. We’re often asked to deal with grease building up behind the canopy filters and filters so greasy the air can barely pass, on baffle filters, mesh filters and wall canopies.

Work in a small place like Hinksey Hill starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Hinksey Hill: your questions answered

Is Hinksey Hill within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Hinksey Hill included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you do school kitchen extract cleaning in Hinksey Hill in the summer holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 6 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Hinksey Hill. You can call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the dates the site is empty.

How long does grease filter exchange take?

Your quote will say how long we expect to be there. For a typical site, it takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters.

How do you protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

Does a filter exchange replace TR19 cleaning?

No. Filter exchange works between full cleans, not instead of them. A TR19® clean deals with the whole system, with a certificate and photo report.

Does a filter exchange disrupt service?

Visits are short, and can be booked outside service times. The clean set goes in as soon as the dirty one comes out.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Which records should we keep?

Each report and certificate we give you, kept together in your maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA says certificates should show the date, location and technician.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving filters too long pushes more grease into the plenum and ducts. That makes the next full clean a bigger job and grease readings can rise between cleans. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What happens on the day

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, while signing off means the written report and pictures. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes well under an hour for most canopies. The timing of a visit to Hinksey Hill is set by you, and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. We set the interval with you.
  3. On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
  4. A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
  5. We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Common problems we fix in Hinksey Hill

Hand-washed filters often come back still greasy. Grease hides in the folds of a baffle or the layers of a mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.

The symptoms we’re asked about most include:

  • Drips falling from the filters onto equipment
  • Filters that come out of the sink still dirty
  • Grease building up behind the canopy filters
  • Filters so greasy the air can barely pass

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Lawrence or elsewhere in Hinksey Hill, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

What affects the cost of grease filter exchange

There’s no set price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:

  • The condition of the system
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

We do not list prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed quote, and we will explain what it covers.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Grease filter exchange around Hinksey Hill

The Food Standards Agency lists about 6 pubs, bars and clubs and about 3 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses as registered food businesses across Hinksey Hill and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). A pub or hotel kitchen that cooks every day builds up grease in its extract like any other. Environmental health officers from Vale of White Horse council inspect food businesses in Hinksey Hill. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hinksey Hill is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

For schools such as New Hinksey Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Littlemore Hospital (about 1.8 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Look out for drips from the canopy
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Book full TR19 cleans alongside filter changes

The next exchange is already in the diary. If the kitchen gets busier, the interval can be shortened to keep up.

If cooking has stepped up, the filter schedule should too. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen behind the canopy.
