Grease filter exchange for sites in Hare Street

About our grease filter exchange in Hare Street

Grease filters are the first line of defence in a kitchen extract. They catch grease before it reaches the plenum and ductwork and they do it best when they’re clean. Our grease filter exchange service swaps dirty filters for clean ones on a schedule. The work covers mesh filters, school and hospital kitchens and island canopies, and people most often call us about smoke and heat lingering under the hood and blocked baffle filters.

In a small place like Hare Street, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

What a clean won’t put right

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • An extract that was undersized from the start
  • Grease behind the filters that a swap cannot remove
  • Smell complaints that need odour control equipment

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Restaurants and pubs
  • School and hospital kitchens
  • Wall canopies
  • Island canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • Baffle filters

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Mention it if the kitchen gets busier
  • Do not let the full clean slip because filters are changed
  • Keep the canopy clear for exchange visits
  • Never leave gaps in the filter bank

We tell you if we spot anything in the canopy that needs attention. That might mean bringing a TR19® clean forward and we can book that in.

Dripping filters are a clear sign they’re full. A clean set straight away cuts the grease in the canopy and the plenum may need a clean as well.

Why deal with it now?

Filters full of grease are fuel sitting right above the cooking. A flare-up on the range can reach them, and from there into the duct. Keeping filters clean takes some of that fuel away. Planning a trip to Hare Street ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Do you need grease filter exchange in Hare Street?

Filters get bent and damaged with handling. Damaged filters do not sit flush, leaving gaps for grease to slip through.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Blocked baffle filters
  • A canopy that drips grease
  • Filter washing that keeps being missed
  • Filters that come out of the sink still dirty

Hill Hall, about 3 miles west, is one of the historic houses near Hare Street; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

Questions from Hare Street

Which fire authority looks after Hare Street?

Hare Street is in the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Hare Street?

Kitchens in Hare Street are inspected by Epping Forest council’s environmental health officers. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you cover Hare Street?

Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes Hare Street.

How regularly do grease filters need exchanging?

It varies with the type and amount of cooking. If filters clog early, the interval needs shortening and we’ll adjust it.

Can we skip TR19 cleans if the filters are changed regularly?

No, the two work together. A TR19® clean deals with the whole system, with a certificate and photo report.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with photos where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Can you give a price for filter changes?

Filters, canopies and how often you need visits all affect the price. Tell us what you have and we’ll come back with a fixed quote quickly.

Part by part

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens

When service is non-stop, filters get forgotten. A regular exchange means nobody has to remember.

Mesh filters

Older or smaller canopies often use mesh filters. We exchange them on the same basis as baffles.

How it works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Hare Street, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Grease, kitchens and Hare Street

Food hygiene inspections in Hare Street are the job of Epping Forest council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. About 18 miles out from central London, Hare Street is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Margaret of Antioch, or anywhere in Hare Street, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St. Margaret's Hospital (about 4.6 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

Hare Street is about 5 miles north-west of Brentwood, in Essex. For grease filter exchange in and around Hare Street, please give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos for a fixed quote. We work across South East England and London, Hare Street included. Hare Street is one of 644 places in Essex where we work for commercial clients. You can also see our page for Chelmsford, about 12 miles away.

Work in CM5 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Close by, we work in Little End (1 mile north-east), Stanford Rivers (1 mile north), Clatterford End (1 mile north-west), Marden Ash (2 miles north-east) and Navestock Heath (2 miles south). We also work in nearby towns such as Chelmsford (12 miles east), Basildon (13 miles south-east), Harlow (8 miles north-west), Brentwood (5 miles south-east), Billericay (9 miles east) and Loughton (7 miles west).
