How the job changes from site to site

Vertical risers

A riser takes the duct up through one or more floors. Grease collects on the walls and at the foot of the riser, which is one of the points we test.

Bends and transitions

Transitions from the canopy spigot into the duct catch a lot of grease. We clean it from the canopy side or through a nearby panel.

About our ductwork cleaning in Hare Street

We have been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Common call-outs are for stale grease odours from the duct and thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct, on bends and junctions, vertical risers and multi-storey ducts.

In a small place like Hare Street, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by ductwork cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A worn-out fan that needs replacing
  • A damper stuck open in the duct
  • Parts of the duct with no way in

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.

Hare Street questions

Do you cover smaller places like Hare Street?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Do you work overnight in Hare Street?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Hare Street keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How much does ductwork cleaning cost in Hare Street?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.

Is a quote from pictures possible?

In many cases, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

Do I get a certificate for ductwork cleaning?

Readings, pictures and, for a full clean, a TR19 certificate. It also gives a recommended next clean date.

What’s the cleaning interval for extract ductwork?

The minimum depends on how long the kitchen cooks each day: every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours, 6 months for 6 to 12 hours and 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings may show it needs doing sooner.

How long does ductwork cleaning take?

Short runs are quick, but long or complex ducts may take several visits. We plan the work around your kitchen.

Hare Street kitchens: local notes

Hare Street is about 18 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible. Food hygiene inspections in Hare Street are the job of Epping Forest council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Hill Hall, about 3 miles west, is one of the historic houses near Hare Street; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Margaret of Antioch or elsewhere in Hare Street, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Hare Street is about 5 miles north-west of Brentwood, in Essex. Anywhere in CM5, we can carry out ductwork cleaning at your premises. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, and Hare Street is one of them. There’s also a page for Chelmsford, about 12 miles away.

All of CM5 is within our area for ductwork cleaning, from busy streets to back roads. If your site is just outside Hare Street, we cover Little End (1 mile north-east), Stanford Rivers (1 mile north), Clatterford End (1 mile north-west), Marden Ash (2 miles north-east) and Navestock Heath (2 miles south). Larger places within reach include Chelmsford (12 miles east), Basildon (13 miles south-east), Harlow (8 miles north-west), Brentwood (5 miles south-east), Billericay (9 miles east) and Loughton (7 miles west).

Keeping the system healthy

Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:

  • Store the certificate with the fire risk assessment
  • Diarise the next duct clean
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Ask us about extra access panels where sections cannot be reached

Keep the certificate and report with the fire risk assessment. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. A change in cooking hours may change the interval under BESA guidance, and grease thickness testing will show it.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Hare Street.

  1. First the duct route is traced and every access point noted.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Getting a quote

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

What affects the quote in Hare Street

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • How many systems or sites are involved

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we will go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Problems your staff have spotted

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Hare Street

Slow air leaves the most grease behind. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Sections of duct with no access panels
  • Grease leaking from duct joints
  • A rancid smell from the extract duct
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as St. Margaret's Hospital (about 4.6 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
