Grease filter exchange across Eight Ash Green

How it works

We are used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes less than an hour in most kitchens. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Eight Ash Green.

  1. We record the number, size and type of your filters.
  2. We set the interval with you.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. A clean set is fitted and checked for gaps.
  5. We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Getting a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

Grease filter exchange in Eight Ash Green

A clean set of filters is a simple, regular dose of prevention. Between full cleans, it keeps the airflow healthy and takes a messy task off your team. Full TR19 cleaning still comes at the right interval, with a certificate. We’re often asked to deal with filters left unwashed on busy weeks and a greasy plenum behind the filters, on restaurants and pubs, island canopies and school and hospital kitchens.

In a small place like Eight Ash Green, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Leave it or put it right?

Clogged filters choke the extract. The kitchen gets hotter and smokier, and the fan works harder to pull air through. Keeping filters clean keeps the extract working properly. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That is our job.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Honest limits

Grease filter exchange cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:

  • Grease deep in the extract system
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • Extraction problems caused by the fan rather than the filters

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think.

How the job changes from site to site

The plenum

With good filters, less grease ends up in the plenum, but it still needs cleaning as part of TR19.

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens

Kitchens that fry and grill all day load their filters fast. They often need the shortest exchange interval.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Eight Ash Green?

The cost depends on your filters and the schedule. We’ll give you a fixed quote, normally within one working day.

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We are happy to deal with either side, and the report can go to both.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Kitchen extracts in Eight Ash Green

The FSA’s data shows about 4 pubs, bars and clubs registered within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Eight Ash Green. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Environmental health officers from Colchester council inspect food businesses in Eight Ash Green. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Eight Ash Green is covered by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Aftercare tips

So the system stays in good health:

  • Report a dripping canopy early
  • Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
  • Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day
  • Report damaged filters so they can be replaced

Nothing changes for your staff, except one less greasy job. Make sure we can reach the canopy on exchange day and let us know of any changes to opening hours.

A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Adjusting the schedule now prevents a build-up in the ducts.
