Different parts, different methods

Baffle filters

A clogged baffle filter restricts airflow. A clean exchange set brings the airflow back.

The plenum

Heavy grease in the plenum often follows clogged or missing filters, or that a full clean is due.

Grease filter exchange in Egypt

Think of filter exchange as routine care for the extract. Between full cleans, it keeps the airflow healthy, and it saves your staff a greasy job. Full TR19 cleaning still comes at the right interval, with a certificate. If you have filters that come out of the sink still dirty and blocked baffle filters, we can put it right, from school and hospital kitchens, mesh filters and baffle filters onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

FAQs for Egypt

Can you work in Egypt outside opening hours?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Egypt?

It’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Egypt. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Will you tell us when the next visit is due?

Yes. The report recommends when the next visit should be, based on what we found and how the system is used.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and we’ll quote them together.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

What types of filter do you exchange?

We exchange baffle and mesh filters. At the start, we note what your canopies use so the clean set always fits.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What should go in our maintenance log?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. They’re what an insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask for, so keep them together and easy to find.

Grease, kitchens and Egypt

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 hotels and guest houses within about 1.5 miles of central Egypt. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Fire safety in Egypt falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. In Egypt, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Winchester City council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Where a hall near Ebenezer Methodist Chapel, or anywhere in Egypt, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. In and around Egypt, every reachable section of the extract is cleaned, and anything we can’t reach goes on the report.

Egypt is about 7 miles north of Winchester, in Hampshire. Egypt gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with photos. Our Hampshire coverage runs to 683 places, and Egypt is one of them. Southampton is in our area too, about 17 miles from Egypt.

Postcode districts we cover here for grease filter exchange: SO21. If you need grease filter exchange at premises on Alexandria Road and Stockbridge Road East or anywhere close by, we can help. Neighbouring places we cover for grease filter exchange include Sutton Scotney (1 mile south-west), Hunton (1 mile east), Stoke Charity (1 mile south-east), Barton Stacey (2 miles north-west) and South Wonston (3 miles south). Around Egypt

Typical jobs here are in premises near Coach And Horses pub. Egypt’s nearest station is Micheldever station, about 3.5 miles north-east.

How we price grease filter exchange

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:

  • The condition of the system
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What we need to know

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Problems your staff have spotted

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What happens if it’s left?

A filter exchange is a few minutes; a choked extract affects a whole service. Few maintenance jobs are as easy and few are as easy to forget. In a small place like Egypt, a system that fails can take a site out of use.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

When it’s something else

We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • A canopy that needs a proper clean
  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
  • A canopy that doesn’t capture the vapour properly

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Restaurants and pubs
  • Island canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Wall canopies
  • Mesh filters
  • School and hospital kitchens

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes well under an hour for most canopies. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Egypt.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. On each visit, we remove the greasy filters.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. We take the greasy set away and confirm the next date.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
