Fire damper testing for kitchens and businesses in Wisborough Green
Testing finds the dampers that will not close. When one sticks, has a damaged link or is corroded, we report it and offer remedials, so the fault does not just sit on a list. If you are dealing with corroded dampers in damp risers and plant rooms and fire dampers that fail to drop shut, we can put it right.
In rural areas, conversions, country hotels and care homes can have ductwork crossing fire-resisting walls, and the dampers in them are easily forgotten. A first test usually starts with finding them all.
It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Wisborough Green
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

What affects the quote in Wisborough Green
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. The quote depends on:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- The times the site is available
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The number of sites or systems
Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.
Asking for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from photos and some basics. Useful things to send:
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Your last certificate, test record or report
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Do you need fire damper testing in Wisborough Green?
The law puts a duty on the responsible person to keep fire safety systems, dampers included, in working order. Employers, owners, landlords and managing agents all need evidence that the dampers have been checked.
The symptoms we are asked about most are:
- Fire dampers nobody can get to
- Fire dampers that fail to drop shut
- Dust or grease build-up on damper blades
- Gaps in the fire damper test log
If you manage an older building converted to a hotel or venue, like many historic houses in the area (Old Place Manor is about 4.4 miles south), finding every damper is the first job.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they’re fully insured
- What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Whether they recommend a next date
Part by part
Smoke dampers
Testing smoke dampers sometimes needs input from whoever looks after the control system. We plan that with you before the visit.
Access panels
A damper can only be tested if it can be reached. That normally means an access panel in the duct, plus a way through the ceiling or wall.
How the visit works
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. Then we make the system safe and start. It takes from an hour or two in a small building to several visits on a large estate, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Wisborough Green.
- Before the visit, we agree access, timings and any areas with restrictions.
- We open up ceilings and hatches and take off each access panel.
- We release each blade and check it shuts all the way.
- The damper is reset and its condition noted.
- Panels and tiles go back, and the results are written up.
Getting ready for the visit
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

Aftercare tips
How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Add new dampers to the register as they’re fitted
- Warn anyone working in ceiling voids about the dampers
- Keep ceiling hatches and duct panels easy to open
- Never wedge or tie a damper open
Tell other contractors where the dampers are, and ask them not to run cables through or wedge them. Anything they disturb should be checked again.
Keeping to at least annual testing stops small faults turning into failed dampers. A blade that is just starting to stick is easier to deal with than a seized one.
Wisborough Green: your questions answered
Can you work in Wisborough Green outside opening hours?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Wisborough Green needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.
Do you cover smaller places like Wisborough Green?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Wisborough Green included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. TR19® is BESA’s specification, not legislation. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19® is the recognised way to show grease is under control.
What if a fire damper will not close?
It’s listed on the report as a fault and we quote for remedials. Once fixed, the damper is drop tested again and the record updated.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and the details are available on request.
How much does fire damper testing cost?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before we start.
How often should fire dampers be tested?
BESA guidance is that fire dampers are tested on completion of installation and at least annually after that. For spring-operated dampers, once a year is the minimum.
What should I send you?
Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. After that, simply give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
