Fire damper testing in Goodley Stock, done properly
A drop test is simple in principle: we release the blade, watch it close fully, then reset it. We do this for buildings in Goodley Stock and across Kent, keeping a log for each damper so there’s a history to look back on. Common call-outs are for dampers clogged with dust or grease and fire dampers that fail to drop shut, across motorised smoke dampers, hospitals and care homes and offices and schools.
For a building in or near Goodley Stock, the visit is planned ahead, with access agreed in advance, and every damper is drop tested, reset and recorded, the same as anywhere.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

What fire damper testing cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than book work that won’t help, so here are the limits:
- Approving the building’s fire strategy
- Dampers that were never installed where they’re needed
- Control wiring problems outside the damper itself
If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Riser dampers
- Wall and floor dampers
- Fusible link fire dampers
- Motorised smoke dampers
- Hospitals and care homes
- Offices and schools
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:
- Close off damper faults promptly
- Report leaks or condensation near ductwork quickly
- Diary the annual test well ahead
- Add new dampers to the register as they’re fitted
Share the results with your fire risk assessor so their assessment matches what was found. Faults on the report are worth closing off quickly.
Clean ductwork means less dust and grease reaching the dampers. It makes sense to plan duct cleaning and damper testing together.
Questions from Goodley Stock
Is Goodley Stock within the area you cover?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Goodley Stock included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Which fire service covers Goodley Stock?
It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Goodley Stock. Keep each damper test report with the fire risk assessment and the building’s log book, ready to show.
Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
The law calls them the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and in shared buildings more than one person can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.
What is TR19?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
How far ahead should we book?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.
How long does fire damper testing take?
As a guide, it takes a morning or an afternoon for a small number of dampers, longer where there are many. The number of dampers and how they’re reached decide the rest.
Are you accredited?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.
What information do you need?
Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
Why it’s worth doing now in Goodley Stock
An untested damper is an unknown. A test gives you a clear answer, and we can offer remedials for any that fail, and that is something you can plan around. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.
A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before work begins.

Do you need fire damper testing in Goodley Stock?
Fusible links and springs don’t last for ever. A link can be damaged, painted over or swapped for the wrong one, and a tired spring may not drive the blade home, and that only becomes clear during a drop test.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Gaps in the fire damper test log
- Rusted damper blades and springs
- Dust or grease build-up on damper blades
- Damper actions from a fire risk assessment
Chartwell, about 1 mile east, is one of the historic houses near Goodley Stock, and older buildings converted to new uses often have ventilation added later.

What affects the quote in Goodley Stock
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
The process
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes anything from a couple of hours for a handful of dampers to a full day for a large building. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Goodley Stock.
- We plan access and timing with you first, including any out-of-hours work.
- Ceiling tiles and hatches are opened and each damper’s access panel removed.
- The blade is released and watched to make sure it closes fully.
- We reset it and record any dirt, corrosion or damage.
- Panels and tiles go back, and the results are written up.
Preparing for the visit
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before any work starts.
Related advice
Different parts, different methods
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Buildings where people sleep or need help to leave rely heavily on compartments holding fire back. Annual damper testing is part of keeping that in place.
Ceiling voids and risers
Risers and service shafts often hold dampers at each floor. Testing goes floor by floor so nothing is missed.
