Fixed quotes for fire damper testing in Fingest

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • How big the system is

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we will price it together.

What we need to know

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • The postcode and the type of business

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

Fire damper testing for kitchens and businesses in Fingest

Not every damper relies on heat. Smoke dampers are motorised and are opened and closed by a control system, so testing means running them through their controls and checking that each blade moves fully and returns. If you are dealing with blades that jam part-way when released and fire damper items raised by an assessor, we can help.

Rural buildings that have been converted or extended can have ducts passing through fire-resisting walls, and the dampers in them are easily forgotten. A first test usually starts with finding them all.

We are CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What happens on the day

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Fingest.

  1. We go through the damper schedule and any previous faults.
  2. Each damper is found and checked for access.
  3. Fire dampers are drop tested, and smoke dampers are tested through their controls.
  4. Passes are reset and any failures recorded with the reason.
  5. The report sets out the results, and we can quote to repair or replace failed dampers.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us where we can park and unload
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Fingest buildings and fire safety

Fingest is covered by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. When a fire safety officer audits a non-domestic building, maintenance of systems like dampers can come up. Fingest is about 35 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included.

Hospitals such as Wycombe Hospital, about 5.4 miles east, are a good example of buildings with dampers on many floors; if you manage a clinic, surgery or care home near Fingest, the same annual testing applies. Site managers at schools such as Cadmore End CofE School usually find the summer break the easiest time for ceiling work like damper testing. Historic buildings that have had ventilation added later can hide dampers in awkward places; Stonor Park, about 2.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the area around Fingest.

Fingest is about 5 miles north-west of Marlow, in Oxfordshire. We carry out fire damper testing for commercial premises of every kind in Fingest and the rest of Oxfordshire. For landlords and multi-site operators

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

What your team can do, and what needs us

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Book the next test before the year runs out
  • Brief other trades about dampers in ceilings and risers
  • Keep ceiling hatches and duct panels easy to open
  • Add new dampers to the register as they’re fitted

After testing, you get a report listing each of the fire and smoke dampers we tested, with where it is and whether it passed. File it with your fire safety log so it’s to hand for assessors and insurers.

Where a damper sits in ductwork that collects dust or grease, keeping that ductwork clean helps. Duct cleaning and damper testing can be planned side by side.

Part by part

Offices and retail

Each new fit-out brings a risk of damaged or covered dampers. Testing after a fit-out shows whether anything was disturbed.

Ceiling voids and risers

Many dampers sit above suspended ceilings. Ceiling tiles are lifted for access and replaced afterwards.

Why deal with it now?

Fire risk assessors and insurers may ask to see damper test records. A current report on file means you can answer right away when the question comes. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.
