How we handle extract fan cleaning in Fingest
Not all extract fans are the same: roof-mounted units, inline fans within the duct, and wall fans. The way in depends on the type, and we plan that during the survey. Common call-outs are for a fan left out of previous cleans and a fan shaking on its mounts, on fan housings, centrifugal fans and in-line fans.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Why act early in Fingest
The fan is part of the fire path. A TR19 clean that left out the fan wouldn’t cover the whole system and many insurers require the full system to be cleaned to TR19. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What happens on the day
We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Somewhere like Fingest, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.
- We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
- The fan is isolated so it cannot start while we work.
- We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
- Blades, housing and the area around the motor are degreased with care.
- It’s closed up, run and checked, and photos go into your report.

Related advice
Do you need extract fan cleaning in Fingest?
Poor filters mean a greasier fan. When filters don’t seal, grease goes straight through to the fan, so the fan takes far more than it should.
The symptoms we’re asked about most are:
- A fan left out of previous cleans
- Thick grease on the impeller and casing
- Hot, greasy smells near the fan
- A fan shaking on its mounts
Term dates shape school work: for a school like Cadmore End CofE School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
What your quote should include
- If they look at the system before pricing
- Proof of insurance
- Whether the quote shows VAT
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
How the job changes from site to site
Kitchens with long cooking hours
Long cooking hours mean more grease reaches the fan. BESA guidance sets at least 3-monthly cleaning for that level of use, fan included.
Roof-mounted fans
Grease can escape from a roof fan onto the surrounding surface and we check the area around the outlet. Heavy staining is noted on the report.
Kitchen extracts in Fingest
Fire safety in Fingest falls to Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. At about 35 miles from central London, Fingest sits well inside the area we cover. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible.
Where a hall near Church of St Bartholomew, or anywhere in Fingest, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Wycombe Hospital (about 5.4 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
Fingest is about 5 miles north-west of Marlow, in Oxfordshire. Anywhere in RG9, we cover extract fan cleaning for commercial sites. Our Oxfordshire coverage runs to 443 places, and Fingest is one of them. For sites nearby, see our Reading page (12 miles or so).
Every address in RG9 is covered for extract fan cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Neighbouring places we cover for extract fan cleaning include Turville (1 mile west), Little Frieth (1 mile south-east), Cadmore End (1 mile north-east), Frieth (1 mile south-east) and Bolter End (2 miles north-east). We also work in nearby towns such as Thame (10 miles north-west), Henley-on-Thames (6 miles south), Benson (10 miles west), Chinnor (6 miles north), Tilehurst (13 miles south-west) and Wallingford (11 miles west).
Around Fingest
In Fingest, that means kitchens and buildings near The Chequers Inn and the streets around them. Fingest’s nearest station is Saunderton station, about 4.8 miles north-east. A little further out are Wycombe Hospital (5.4 miles east). For a walk, there’s Warburg Nature Reserve and Bald Hill.
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by extract fan cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:
- A dirty duct upstream of the fan
- A failed motor or worn bearings (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
- Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.
What the work covers

How we price extract fan cleaning
You will get a fixed price before work begins. It takes into account:
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- The times the site is available
- Travel, parking and unloading
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
Quotes are quick. Call or email with a few details and you’ll usually have a fixed price within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.
Fingest: your questions answered
Who inspects food businesses in Fingest?
In Fingest, it’s Buckinghamshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.
Do you work overnight in Fingest?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Fingest can fit around your hours. When you ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, mention when the site is quiet.
Do you offer extract fan cleaning separately?
Yes, we do. The report will make clear that only the fan was cleaned, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The full system still needs its regular TR19 clean.
What do you do to protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
What’s TR19?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.
Do we need to close while you work?
Not usually. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we are there, so the visit goes in a quiet slot.
Are you insured?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor, for sites that check contractor safety.
What happens if you can’t reach some of it?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
