Fire Damper Testing in Chestfield
Fire damper testing for Chestfield, from a team that has been trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.
- Dampers hidden with no access panel or hatch
- Dampers flagged on a fire risk assessment
- Dampers that stick or won’t close fully
How we price fire damper testing
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- Any permits to work or inductions
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Parking and loading at the site
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before we start.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
Fire damper testing in Chestfield, done properly
Plenty of buildings have dampers nobody has looked at since they were fitted. Ceilings have gone up, access panels have been covered or lost, and the records have gone missing. We find what we can, test what we can reach and list anything we can’t get to, so you know where the gaps are. The work covers wall and floor dampers, hospitals and care homes and offices and schools, and people most often call us about fire dampers nobody can get to and fire damper items raised by an assessor.
In rural areas, conversions, country hotels and care homes can have ductwork crossing fire-resisting walls, where the dampers are easy to overlook. The first visit starts by locating each damper.
A written report with pictures follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Chestfield: your questions answered
Can you work in Chestfield outside opening hours?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. Your customers, staff or residents in Chestfield needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.
Do you do school damper testing in Chestfield in the summer holidays?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. Around Chestfield, the Food Standards Agency lists about 7 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
How much does fire damper testing cost in Chestfield?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: the size of the system, its condition, access and when we can work. We fix the price before we start.
How much notice do you need?
That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. Tell us the addresses and what each needs and you will get one fixed quote.
How often do fire dampers need drop testing?
At least once a year, under BESA guidance, plus a test when the damper is first installed. Your fire risk assessment may call for some dampers to be tested more often.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured, and the details are available on request.
Honest limits
Some problems need a different service or another trade:
- Fire risk assessments, which need a fire risk assessor
- Fire-stopping gaps around the duct where it passes through the wall
- Signing off a building’s overall fire safety
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Where we work
- Wall and floor dampers
- Fusible link fire dampers
- Riser dampers
- Offices and schools
- Hospitals and care homes
- Motorised smoke dampers
Different parts, different methods
Ceiling voids and risers
Plant rooms and risers can be damp, which leads to corrosion. Signs of corrosion or water are recorded so it can be dealt with.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Hospitals and care homes stay occupied around the clock. We plan the order of work with the site team so care isn’t interrupted.

Why it’s worth doing now in Chestfield
Putting testing off doesn’t change whether the dampers will close; it just means you do not know. The guidance from BESA is at least once a year, so a missed year leaves a gap in the record too. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Chestfield rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.
You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.
What you get with us
- Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout
- Trading since 2009
- We diagnose before we treat
- A fixed price before any work starts
The process
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for a single floor, with bigger buildings phased over more than one visit. Somewhere as small as Chestfield, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.
- First we look at any damper register, drawings or earlier test reports.
- Each damper is located and reached through its access panel.
- We release each fire damper blade and operate smoke dampers from their controls.
- Dampers that close fully are reset and left open.
- We report on every damper, with faults and suggested remedials set out.
How to prepare
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Let us know about parking and loading
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What fire damper testing looks like in Chestfield
Chestfield is within about 1 mile of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion, and corrosion is one of the things that can stop a fire damper closing. The FSA’s food hygiene register lists about 7 schools, colleges and universities and about 11 hospitals, care homes and childcare premises with registered kitchens or food service across Chestfield and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Larger buildings like these are often divided into fire compartments, with dampers where ducts pass between them. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Chestfield. Under the Fire Safety Order, the responsible person has to keep fire safety systems, dampers included, in working order, and the fire authority enforces that in most non-domestic premises.
For schools like Swalecliffe Community Primary School, damper testing is easiest in the holidays, when corridors and ceilings are clear. If you manage offices, shops or flats near Chestfield & Swalecliffe station, the ductwork in them may pass through fire-resisting walls and floors, and any dampers need testing at least once a year. Healthcare buildings such as Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital (about 0.7 miles north-west) rely on fire compartments, and the dampers in them need testing at least annually.
Chestfield is about 1 mile east of Whitstable, in Kent. Multi-site and managed buildings
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
