Fire damper inspection in Adversane
Our technicians work in Adversane on fire damper drop testing and smoke damper testing, with a record for each damper. Out-of-hours visits, a fixed quote and a written report with pictures as standard.
- Dampers that cannot be reached without an access panel
- Smoke dampers with no recent test
- Rusted damper blades and springs
About our fire damper testing in Adversane
A drop test is simple in principle: we release the blade, watch it close fully, then reset it. We do this for buildings in Adversane and across West Sussex, keeping a log for each damper so there’s a history to look back on. If you have fire dampers that haven’t been tested for over a year and dampers affected by leaks or condensation, we can put it right.
In a village or hamlet like Adversane, there may be only a few buildings with fire dampers. Each damper still needs testing at least once a year.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

The process
Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. In a small place like Adversane, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- We start with whatever records exist: registers, drawings or old reports.
- Dampers are located one by one and reached through their access panels.
- Fire dampers are drop tested and smoke dampers are run through their controls.
- Each one that passes is reset, ready to work.
- The results go into a report, with failed dampers and remedials listed.
Getting ready for the visit
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
How to get a quote
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.
Related advice
Leave it or put it right?
Leaving damper testing for another year doesn’t make the dampers any more likely to work. BESA guidance is to test at least annually, so a missed year leaves a gap in the record too. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before any work starts.

What staff can safely do
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.
Questions from Adversane
Do you cover smaller places like Adversane?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Adversane is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Do you work overnight in Adversane?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Adversane needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Will we get a certificate for the dampers?
The record we give you is a report of the tests, damper by damper. Any failures come with a note of the remedials needed.
Whose job is it to make sure fire dampers are tested?
It’s the responsible person, under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Testing at least yearly and keeping the reports is how they can show it’s being done.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
Anything we cannot reach goes on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
Is TR19 cleaning required by law?
No. The law sets the duty, and TR19® is the recognised benchmark for meeting it. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, the responsible person must reduce fire risk, and many insurers can refuse or reduce a claim without proof of cleaning.
What information do you need?
Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, for many jobs. Send wide shots, close-ups of any access panels and anything that worries you, and we typically come back within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we will say so.
Adversane buildings and fire safety
We cover Adversane, about 38 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included. Fire safety in Adversane falls to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. When a fire safety officer audits a non-domestic building, maintenance of systems like dampers can come up.
If you manage a historic building in the area (Old Place Manor is about 3.2 miles south-west), dampers fitted during conversions can be hard to reach and need recording. Site managers at schools such as The Weald School normally find the summer break the easiest time for ceiling work like damper testing.
Adversane is about 8 miles south-west of Horsham, in West Sussex. Adversane gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our West Sussex coverage runs to 371 places, Adversane among them. For sites nearby, see our Guildford page (18 miles or so).
We work across the RH14 postcode area for fire damper testing and the roads nearby. We cover sites on Stane Street, Adversane Lane and Lordings Road and nearby roads. Neighbouring places we cover for fire damper testing include North Heath (1 mile south), Gay Street (2 miles south), Codmore Hill (2 miles south-west), Broomershill (2 miles south) and Nutbourne (3 miles south). Larger places within reach include Crawley (15 miles north-east), Horsham (8 miles north-east), Worthing (12 miles south), Burgess Hill (15 miles east), Littlehampton (13 miles south) and Shoreham-by-Sea (14 miles south-east).
Landmarks near Adversane
Adversane’s nearest station is Billingshurst station, about 1.5 miles north-east of the centre. The countryside around Adversane includes The Mens.
For landlords and multi-site operators
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.
We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Adversane and across West Sussex. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.
Aftercare tips
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Add new dampers to the register as they’re fitted
- Store test records alongside the fire risk assessment
- Book the next test before the year runs out
- Keep an eye out for damp around dampers
Make sure trades working in ceilings and risers know where the dampers sit, and that they mustn’t tie, wedge or obstruct them. Anything they disturb should be checked again.
Deal with leaks and condensation near dampers quickly. Corrosion is a common reason blades stick.
How the job changes from site to site
Schools, hospitals and care homes
Schools are often easiest to test during the holidays, with no classes to work around.
Offices and retail
Multi-let buildings may have dampers inside tenant areas. Access to each area is planned with whoever manages the building.
What affects the cost of fire damper testing
The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- How big the system is
- The condition we find in the survey
- Whether several sites go on one quote
Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
What we need to know
To speed up the quote, please include:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The site address and the type of premises
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
