Extract fan repair in Sprig's Alley

Grease is hard on extract fans. A coated impeller spins unevenly and the vibration wears out bearings and fixings. That is why we check the grease whenever we work on a fan, and a full TR19® clean can be booked alongside. If you have a humming noise from the fan motor and a belt-driven fan that squeals, we can put it right.

In a small place like Sprig's Alley, fans are often on an outside wall or roof, open to wind and rain. Weather and grease together wear out motors and bearings.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Sprig's Alley: your questions answered

Can you get to a site in Sprig's Alley?

Yes, Sprig's Alley is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you work at weekends in Sprig's Alley?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Sprig's Alley needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we’ll book within them.

What does TR19 mean?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. TR19® Grease, a standalone specification since 2019, covers grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. We always survey first, either from pictures and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.

What accreditations do you have?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.

Does a fan repair include cleaning the ductwork?

Doing both together is often sensible. A full clean takes in the whole extract, including the fan, with a certificate and photo report.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few hours for most repairs, longer for a full fan replacement. Somewhere as small as Sprig's Alley, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. A visit is booked, in the evening or overnight if that suits.
  2. We isolate the extract and open the fan housing.
  3. We inspect every moving part and the fixings.
  4. You hear whether repair or replacement makes sense, with a fixed quote.
  5. The fan is repaired or replaced, then checked running.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

What affects the cost of extract fan repair

Your quote is based on your site. We consider:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • How big the system is
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why every job is surveyed first, and the price is agreed before we start.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will usually have a quote within one working day.

What extract fan repair can’t fix

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Faults on the gas side of an interlock system, which need a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which may need odour control
  • An extract system that was undersized from the start

If in doubt, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Part by part

Roof and wall-mounted fans

Noise from an outside fan can carry beyond the kitchen. Loose fixings and worn mounts are often the cause.

Motors and bearings

A grinding or rumbling noise often means worn bearings. We find out whether the bearings or the motor is at fault and then recommend the fix.
