Extract fan repair across Gustard Wood

Extract fan repair for kitchens and businesses in Gustard Wood

Think of it as a check-up for the fan: we hear the symptoms, find the cause and put it right. What you want back is a fan that runs smoothly and a plain account of what we found. The work covers kitchen extract fans, roof and wall fans and fan motors, and the jobs we see most are poor airflow at the canopy and a fan shaking on its mountings.

For a fan repair in or near Gustard Wood, the more you tell us about the fan, the better the first visit: a photo of the fan, the details on its label and the access arrangements help us plan.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

The process

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes a few hours for most repairs, longer for a full fan replacement. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Gustard Wood run smoothly.

  1. We ask what the fan is doing, from noise and vibration to a full stop.
  2. With the fan safely isolated, we open it up for a proper look.
  3. We check the motor, bearings, drive, impeller and mountings.
  4. You hear what’s wrong and what it will cost, with a fixed quote, before we go ahead.
  5. The repair or replacement is carried out and the fan is run and checked.

How to prepare

Advice

Gustard Wood questions

Is there an emergency callout for extract fans in Gustard Wood?

Our emergency line runs 24/7, and Gustard Wood is within the area we cover. Call 0345 646 2711 and tell us what the fan is doing, or not doing. Details of the make and model help us plan the repair.

Is Gustard Wood within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go, so it doesn’t spread.

Which records should we keep?

Every certificate and report from each visit, kept together in your maintenance log with your in-house cleaning records. BESA advises that certificates record the date, location and technician.

Will we have to shut during the visit?

Normally not. Out-of-hours visits keep the disruption down. Bigger sites can be done in stages so parts stay in use.

Will I get paperwork for my records?

Yes. Every visit ends with a written report and photos, covering the work, any areas we couldn’t access and the recommended next date. Kitchen extract cleans to TR19® Grease also get a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

What the work involves, part by part

Belt-driven fans

Belt-driven fans have a motor that turns the impeller through belts and pulleys. Worn belts squeal and slow the fan down, and pulleys and bearings need checking too.

Impellers and housings

The fan housing collects grease too. We check both, and cleaning can form part of the repair.

Looking after it afterwards

So the system stays in good health:

  • Never run the extract with filters missing
  • Note when the fan trips or cuts out
  • Make sure every filter is in place and clean
  • Keep the area around the fan controls clear

Clean filters help a repaired fan stay that way. Less grease on the impeller means less wear and the quieter it runs.

A slipping belt or a loose mount is a small job. Left for months, they can damage the motor or bearings, so it’s worth acting early.

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

What affects the cost of extract fan repair

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The scale of the work
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
  • Parking and loading at the site

The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You will normally have a quote within one working day.

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by extract fan repair, and we’ll tell you before we start. It will not put right:

  • Faults on the gas side of an interlock system, which need a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Smells from the discharge that need odour control equipment
  • Wiring and supply faults beyond the fan itself

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
