Extract fan cleaning in Woodland

Extract fan cleaning in Woodland, done properly

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. Common call-outs are for hot, greasy smells near the fan and a fan that hums, whines or rumbles, on discharge points, centrifugal fans and fan housings.

In a small place like Woodland, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We are also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Why it’s worth doing now in Woodland

Without a working extract fan, a kitchen can’t cook safely. Many fan problems start with grease, so cleaning the fan helps keep it working. If it does fail, our 24/7 emergency line is there. Somewhere as small as Woodland, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Why us?

  • A written report with photos after each visit
  • BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease
  • We diagnose before we treat
  • Trading since 2009

How we price extract fan cleaning

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • How big the system is
  • Any permits to work or inductions

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • A few general shots of the system
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

What we do, step by step

A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, clear away and leave you the report. The visit itself takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Woodland.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look for grease, noise and vibration.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
  4. We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Advice

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Don’t turn the fan off mid-service
  • Do not store items in front of the fan’s access point
  • Make sure the fan is included each time
  • Watch for grease marks around the outlet

The photo report shows the fan before and after cleaning. It notes what was done and anything that couldn’t be reached, along with the recommended next clean date.

A change in how the fan sounds is worth noting. Rattles, hums or shaking can be early signs of build-up or wear and early action can save a repair.

What the work involves, part by part

Kitchens with long cooking hours

Long cooking hours mean more grease reaches the fan. Under BESA guidance, heavy use means cleaning at least every 3 months, fan included.

Roof-mounted fans

On a roof, the air is cooler and grease drops out faster. We scrape and degrease the blades and casing.

Kitchen extracts in Woodland

Food Standards Agency records list about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Woodland. Each kitchen extract among them ends at a fan, and grease on the impeller strains the motor. Woodland sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Environmental health officers from Folkestone and Hythe council inspect food businesses in Woodland. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Woodland (Acrise Place is about 2.9 miles east), fitting access panels needs care. School kitchens, at schools like Lyminge Church of England Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. A hospital like Royal Victoria Hospital, about 5.6 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Common questions in Woodland

Will you come out to Woodland?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Woodland?

That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What about areas you cannot get to?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.

Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?

Yes, we can clean just the fan. It’s useful when a fan is noisy or greasy between full cleans, but it doesn’t replace a full TR19 clean.

What if the fan needs more than a clean?

Anything beyond cleaning is flagged, with what we found. We can repair or replace it, and there’s a 24/7 emergency callout for breakdowns.

How do you protect the area?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.

What is TR19?

It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It covers how systems are inspected, cleaned and checked, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and the details are available on request.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Woodland

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Damaged fan blades
  • A failed motor or worn bearings (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
