Extract Fan Cleaning in Stonor
Cleaning of kitchen extract fans, impellers, fan housings and discharge points for commercial sites in Stonor and across Oxfordshire. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- A motor area thick with grease
- A fan shaking on its mounts
- Burning smells from the fan area
About our extract fan cleaning in Stonor
Kitchen extract fans come in different forms: fans on the roof, fans built into the duct run, and fans on an outside wall. Each is isolated and opened in its own way, and we plan that during the survey. If you have grease around the motor and its mounts and an extract fan with no cleaning record, we can put it right.
Somewhere as small as Stonor, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.
Every visit ends with a written report and photos, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we are called out for in Stonor
The fan sits at the end of the grease’s journey. Whatever grease is still in it settles on the impeller and inside the housing, and the spinning blades fling it onto the walls of the housing.
The symptoms we’re asked about most are:
- Less air being pulled from the kitchen
- Vibration from an unbalanced impeller
- Hot, greasy smells near the fan
- A fan left out of previous cleans
Church and community hall kitchens, near Pishill Church or anywhere around Stonor, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it helps at the next visit:
- Flag smoke lingering at the canopy
- Notice when the fan starts to sound different
- Check filters are seated before cooking
- Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
When the fan is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.
Keep the whole system on its cleaning cycle. Regular full cleans keep the fan from building up heavy deposits, in line with BESA guidance.
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Stonor
Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.
Stonor questions
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Stonor?
Kitchens in Stonor are inspected by Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health officers. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.
Can you work in Stonor outside opening hours?
Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Stonor needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.
Which accreditations do you hold?
BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we’re fully insured.
How long is a fan clean?
One easily reached fan is quick, but hard-to-reach fans take more time. It’s done while the kitchen is closed.
Do you repair extract fans as well as clean them?
A clean will not mend wear. Where the fan needs repair or replacement, we can do that too, with a fixed quote first.
Why has my extract fan got louder?
Grease on the blades and housing is one of the usual causes, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. Worn bearings and motor problems are others, which our report will flag.
What does TR19 mean?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
How often does the fan need cleaning?
It’s cleaned with the whole extract, from every 3 months for 12 to 16 hours of cooking a day to every 12 months for 2 to 6 hours. Grease readings and the fan’s condition can show it needs more.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Wiring faults to the fan
- Damaged fan blades
- A dirty duct upstream of the fan
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Where we work
- In-line fans
- Roof-mounted fans
- Centrifugal fans
- Discharge points
- Axial fans
- Fan housings
Part by part
Inline duct fans
Space around an inline fan can be tight, so the method is planned in advance. If it can’t be reached fully, the report says so.
Kitchens with long cooking hours
Long cooking hours mean more grease reaches the fan. BESA guidance sets at least 3-monthly cleaning for that level of use, fan included.
What happens on the day
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Stonor before we set off.
- We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
- We isolate the power before opening the housing.
- We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
- The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
- We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the space around the work
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
