Why it’s worth doing now in Satmar

Grease on the fan is grease in the system. TR19® Grease covers the whole extract, fan included, and insurers asking for TR19 cleaning expect the full system. It’s simpler to plan the work at Satmar now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Extract fan cleaning in Satmar, done properly

Every kitchen extract depends on its fan: it pulls air from the canopy, through the duct and out of the building. Whatever grease slips past the filters and duct reaches the fan and we clean it off. We’re often asked to deal with thick grease on the impeller and casing and grease around the motor and its mounts, across fan housings, in-line fans and discharge points.

For a kitchen in or near Satmar, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • How easy every part is to reach

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to have:

  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Your last certificate, test record or report

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix

Not every problem is solved by extract fan cleaning, and we will tell you before work begins. It does not solve:

  • A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)
  • Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)
  • An impeller that’s bent or split

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Axial fans
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • In-line fans
  • Fan housings
  • Discharge points
  • Centrifugal fans

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

What the work involves, part by part

Wall fans

Smaller kitchens may extract through a fan on an outside wall. We isolate it, then clean the blades and housing.

Kitchens with long cooking hours

Long cooking hours mean more grease reaches the fan. Under BESA guidance, heavy use means cleaning at least every 3 months, fan included.

How it works

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we’re in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Somewhere as small as Satmar, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
  2. We isolate the power before opening the housing.
  3. We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
  4. Blades, housing and surrounds are degreased with care around the electrics.
  5. It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.

How to prepare

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Advice

Satmar questions

Can the work in Satmar be done at night or at weekends?

Yes, evening, overnight and weekend work is normal for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Just call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Satmar?

That is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not usually. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so the site can carry on as normal.

Can you fix a fan that’s worn out?

We also repair and replace extract fans. If we find wear or damage, we will explain it and give you a fixed quote.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping and expects a risk-based approach.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No, not in itself. TR19® is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs check against, and many insurers ask for proof of cleaning to it. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.

Looking after it afterwards

Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Report grease escaping from the fan
  • Keep access to the fan clear
  • Keep the fan on whenever the range is lit
  • Report rattles or humming early

When we have finished, the fan is reassembled and run. Anything we notice, like noise, vibration or a worn part, goes on the report, so you can plan any repair.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Clean, well-seated filters are the fan’s first protection, and replace any that are damaged.
