Extract fan cleaning for kitchens and businesses in River
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We are often asked to deal with thick grease on the impeller and casing and less air being pulled from the kitchen, across roof-mounted fans, fan housings and centrifugal fans.
In a village or hamlet like River, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix
To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:
- A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)
- Wiring faults to the fan
- Grease in the duct and canopy before the fan (those need a full TR19 clean)
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Parts of the system we cover

What we do, step by step
There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to River.
- First we locate the fan and agree how it’s safely isolated.
- Power to the fan is isolated before anyone touches it.
- We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
- Blades, housing and the area around the motor are degreased with care.
- It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.
How to prepare
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Let us know about parking and loading

Advice
Aftercare tips
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Look for grease stains near the discharge
- Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
- Run the extract throughout cooking
- Check filters are seated before cooking
When we have finished, the fan is reassembled and run. If anything seems wrong, from vibration to wear, we note it, so you can plan any repair.
Make sure the fan is reachable. Clear access means it’s never left out of a clean, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.
What extract fan cleaning looks like in River
The FSA’s data shows about 3 pubs, bars and clubs registered within about 1.5 miles of central River. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in River are the job of Chichester council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service covers River. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.
Where a hall near The Parish Church of St Peter, or anywhere in River, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Petworth House is about 2.4 miles east), access may need planning.
River is about 12 miles east of Petersfield, in West Sussex. From the centre of River to the outskirts, extract fan cleaning is available to all kinds of commercial premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Your questions about extract fan cleaning in River
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in River?
Food hygiene inspections in River are carried out by Chichester council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Is River within the area you cover?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and River is covered. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Does the law say we must follow TR19?
Not in itself. TR19® is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs check against, and many insurance policies ask for proof of TR19® cleaning. The legal duty sits in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales.
What does extract fan cleaning cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system, its condition, access and timing. Call for a fixed quote and we will normally reply within one working day.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, with visits on a regular schedule.
Do you work out of hours?
Yes. Give us your opening hours with your enquiry and we’ll book around them.
How do you protect the area?
By covering it before any work starts. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.
What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning
Your quote is based on your site. We take into account:
- The scale of the work
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Site rules, permits and inductions
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before we start.
What to send for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You will typically have a quote within one working day.
