Extract fan cleaning in Pested, done properly

Not all extract fans are the same: fans on the roof, fans built into the duct run, and fans on an outside wall. The way in depends on the type, and we plan that during the survey. The work covers fan housings, roof-mounted fans and in-line fans, and the jobs we see most are rough running from the extract fan and an extract fan with no cleaning record.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • File the fan’s report with your other records
  • Don’t turn the fan off mid-service
  • Check filters are seated before cooking
  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker

The photo report shows the fan before and after cleaning. It lists what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, along with the recommended next clean date.

A change in how the fan sounds is worth noting. Rattles, hums or shaking can be early signs of build-up or wear, and catching it early keeps it a cleaning job.

Kitchen extracts in Pested

Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Pested. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. We cover Pested, about 46 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible.

Where a hall near Church of St Peter, or anywhere in Pested, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. School kitchens, at schools like Challock Primary School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Pested is about 6 miles north of Ashford, in Kent. Pested gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where necessary and a written report with pictures. Across Kent, we cover 922 places, Pested among them. For sites nearby, see our Maidstone page (15 miles or so).

Extract fan cleaning in TN25 is surveyed, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. If your site is just outside Pested, we cover Challock (1 mile south), Paddock (1 mile south-west), Badlesmere (2 miles north), Throwley Forstal (2 miles north-west) and Throwley (3 miles north-west). Further out, we also cover Maidstone (15 miles west), Ashford (6 miles south), Canterbury (9 miles east), Sittingbourne (10 miles north-west), Whitstable (11 miles north-east) and Faversham (6 miles north).

How it works

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. A quick note on how to find the site and where to park makes a visit to Pested run smoothly.

  1. First we check the fan’s condition and how it sounds.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. The impeller is cleaned blade by blade so it runs balanced.
  4. We clean the casing, the outlet and around the motor.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

How to prepare

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Ask for a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

What your team can do, and what needs us

When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Pested

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:

  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it

Quotes are quick. Send a few details and pictures, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

What the work involves, part by part

Roof-mounted fans

Many kitchen extracts end at a fan on the roof. We clean them where they can be safely reached, and anything we cannot reach is recorded.

Impellers and blades

While the impeller is clean, we can see its condition: chips, distortion or wear. Anything we see goes on the report.

Do you need extract fan cleaning in Pested?

Grease on a fan is a fire risk, in Pested as anywhere. If grease in the duct catches, the fan and its housing can feed the fire and an overworked motor runs hotter.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • A fan that hums, whines or rumbles
  • A motor area thick with grease
  • A fan left out of previous cleans
  • A fan shaking on its mounts

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Pested (Belmont House and Gardens is about 3.4 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care.

What your quote should include

  • Whether VAT is included
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures

Questions from Pested

Do you cover smaller places like Pested?

Yes, Pested is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Pested?

In Pested, it’s Ashford council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few photos plus the address and your hours. If we need more, we will ask.

Why is my extract fan noisy?

An unbalanced impeller, normally from uneven grease, is a common cause. We clean the fan and tell you if anything else, like worn bearings, is to blame.

How do you protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Can the work be done while we’re closed?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we’ll book around them.

How long will it take to clean the fan?

Size, access and build-up all affect it. Typically it takes an hour or two for most single fans.

Should the extract fan be cleaned as part of TR19?

Yes, the fan is cleaned as part of TR19. If a fan can’t be reached, the report says so, so you always know what was cleaned.

What a clean will not put right

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what extract fan cleaning won’t do:

  • A cracked or broken impeller (it needs replacing)
  • Grease in the canopy and ductwork
  • An undersized fan that can’t cope

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer.
