About our extract fan cleaning in Monkey Street
In Monkey Street, as everywhere we work, the fan follows a set routine: isolated first, then opened, scraped and degreased. Your report shows the impeller as we found it and as we left it. If you’re dealing with a fan left out of previous cleans and grease around the motor and its mounts, we can put it right, from axial fans, centrifugal fans and in-line fans onwards.
Somewhere as small as Monkey Street, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Monkey Street: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Monkey Street?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Monkey Street?
In Monkey Street, it’s Tendring council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.
Can you clean the fan on its own?
Yes, if the fan needs it. We’ll often suggest checking the duct too, as a greasy fan typically means a greasy duct, but the choice is yours.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us when we go. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.
How often does the fan need cleaning?
With the whole system, at intervals set by BESA guidance: every 3, 6 or 12 months. A noisy or heavily coated fan may need it sooner.
Are you accredited?
Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Why is my extract fan noisy?
Build-up on the impeller is a frequent reason, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. Worn bearings and motor problems are others, which our report will flag.
What happens on the day
The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. Most of the time goes on the work itself, which takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Monkey Street.
- The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
- It’s isolated so it cannot run while we work.
- We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
- The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
- It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.
Before we arrive
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
Getting a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before any work starts.
Related advice
Why deal with it now?
Grease on the fan is grease in the system. TR19® Grease covers the whole extract, fan included and many insurers require the full system to be cleaned to TR19. Somewhere as small as Monkey Street, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. We give you a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Keeping the system healthy
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Keep the grease filters clean and in place
- Report grease escaping from the fan
- Don’t turn the fan off mid-service
- Check the report shows the fan was cleaned
A full system clean includes a TR19 certificate from the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If only the fan is cleaned, the photo report says so.
Make sure the fan is reachable. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.
Grease, kitchens and Monkey Street
We cover Monkey Street, about 57 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you. Food hygiene inspections in Monkey Street are the job of Tendring council’s environmental health team. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Mary or anywhere around Monkey Street, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Around Monkey Street, as anywhere, we clean the parts you cannot see as well as the canopy you can.

Part by part
Wall fans
With little duct before them, wall fans collect grease fast. They may need cleaning as often as the canopy, which grease readings will show.
Impellers and blades
Coated blades move less air. We clean each blade back to its surface, so the fan can run as intended.
For landlords and multi-site operators
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
