Extract fan cleaning in Egypt

In Egypt, as everywhere we work, the fan follows a set routine: we isolate it, open the housing, scrape the impeller and degrease the lot. Your report shows the impeller as we found it and as we left it. The work covers fan housings, in-line fans and roof-mounted fans, and the jobs we see most are less air being pulled from the kitchen and an extract fan that vibrates or rattles.

For a kitchen in or near Egypt, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

Grease, kitchens and Egypt

The FSA’s data shows about 9 pubs, bars and clubs registered within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Egypt. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Fire safety in Egypt falls to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Buckinghamshire council inspect food businesses in Egypt. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Cliveden is about 3 miles west), access may need planning. Where a hall near St John the Evangelist, or anywhere in Egypt, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does.

Egypt is about 3 miles north of Slough, in Slough. We carry out extract fan cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Egypt and the rest of Slough. We cover 31 places across Slough, from busy centres to quieter spots. For sites nearby, see our Reading page, about 17 miles away.

All of SL2 is within our area for extract fan cleaning, from the main roads to the quietest streets. If you need extract fan cleaning at premises on Cages Wood Drive, Hammond End and The Avenue or anywhere close by, our technicians can take on the work. If your site is just outside Egypt, we cover Farnham Common (1 mile south-east), Hedgerley (1 mile north-east), East Burnham (1 mile south), Farnham Royal (1 mile south) and Littleworth Corner (2 miles west). Further out, we also cover Slough (3 miles south), Cippenham (3 miles south), Chalvey (4 miles south), Langley (5 miles south-east), Upton (4 miles south) and Burnham (3 miles south-west).

Honest limits

Not every problem is solved by extract fan cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)
  • Damaged fan blades
  • Electrical faults in the fan’s supply or controls (an electrician’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on in Egypt

Part by part

Kitchens with long cooking hours

When a busy kitchen’s fan fails, cooking stops. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.

Fan housings and motors

The housing around the impeller catches grease flung off the blades. We clean it along with the blades.

Common problems we fix in Egypt

A fan collects more grease when the filters let more through. Missing, damaged or badly fitted filters let grease travel the whole system, so the fan takes far more than it should.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • A motor area thick with grease
  • Rough running from the extract fan
  • A fan coated in grease inside its housing
  • Weak extraction at the canopy

For schools such as Farnham Common Infant School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included

Our hiring checklist

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Egypt.

  1. The fan is found and its type, access and isolation checked.
  2. It’s isolated so it can’t run while we work.
  3. We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
  4. The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
  5. We reassemble, run and photograph the fan.

Preparing for the visit

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Egypt questions

Which council inspects kitchens in Egypt?

In Egypt, it’s Buckinghamshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. An officer may look up into the canopy, so clean filters on the day and a recent certificate on file both help.

Which fire authority looks after Egypt?

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Egypt. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

The law calls them the responsible person. It’s normally the employer, or whoever controls the building, and where several people have control, each can have duties. Your lease and fire risk assessment should make it clear.

Can you work evenings and weekends?

Yes, and that is how we prefer to work. We book the visit for when the area is out of use, such as late evening, overnight or a weekend.

Are you accredited?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few pictures plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

How long is a fan clean?

That depends on the fan’s size, its position and how much grease there is. As a guide, it takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works and we will come back with a fixed quote.

Why deal with it now?

The fan is part of the fire path. TR19® Grease covers the whole extract, fan included, and insurers asking for TR19 cleaning expect the full system. It’s simpler to plan the work at Egypt now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
