About our extract fan cleaning in Bassett

Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract fans since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and full insurance. The work covers fan housings, centrifugal fans and roof-mounted fans, and people most often call us about a fan that has never been cleaned and rough running from the extract fan.

In a smaller place like Bassett, many kitchens sit in older buildings or later extensions, where the duct may cross a roof void or climb an outside wall. Flat runs collect grease and need proper access to clean.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

The process

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Bassett.

  1. We find the fan and check how it’s reached and how it’s isolated.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. The impeller and the housing around it are scraped clean.
  4. The fan and its surrounds are degreased, keeping clear of the motor’s electrics.
  5. It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Clear loose items from the work area

How to get a quote

There’s no standard price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Advice

Part by part

Wall fans

Smaller kitchens may extract through a fan on an outside wall. It’s isolated, opened and cleaned inside and out.

Fan housings and motors

Motors and their electrics are kept dry and treated with care, and the fan is isolated throughout. Grease on and around the motor can trap heat, so we clean what we safely can.

Why it’s worth doing now in Bassett

A greasy fan at the discharge can spread grease onto the roof or wall around it. That stains surfaces and can add to the fire risk outside the building, which is one more reason to keep it clean. A site near Bassett that has to close at short notice is hard to cover for.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

When to call us in Bassett

Grease on a fan is a fire risk, in Bassett as anywhere. A fire in the duct can reach the fan and the grease around it and an overworked motor runs hotter.

Most sites get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Vibration from an unbalanced impeller
  • Less air being pulled from the kitchen
  • A fan motor running hot under a coat of grease
  • A noisy fan that has got louder over time

Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (South Stoneham House is about 1.5 miles east), access may need planning.

What your quote should include

  • Whether a survey comes first
  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether they’re fully insured

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Extract fan cleaning around Bassett

Sea air reaches Bassett, which sits within about 3 miles of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. Food Standards Agency data counts about 71 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 45 takeaways and sandwich shops within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Bassett. The fan at the end of each of those extracts collects grease that slows it and wears the motor. Bassett sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Princess Anne Hospital (about 1.1 miles west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Michael and All Angels Church, or anywhere in Bassett, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Bassett questions

Do you cover smaller places like Bassett?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Bassett is covered. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Does the sea air around Bassett make a difference to extract fan cleaning?

It can. Bassett is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we’ll quote them together.

What happens to the waste?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. We do not leave it behind.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. Work is timed around how each site runs.

Why is my extract fan noisy?

Grease on the blades and housing is one of the usual causes, since uneven grease makes it run out of balance. It can also be wear in the bearings or motor, which our report will flag.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?

Yes, we do. The report will make clear that only the fan was cleaned, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The whole system still needs cleaning at the intervals in BESA guidance.

Honest limits

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:

  • A motor that has burnt out
  • An impeller that is bent or split
  • A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on in Bassett

  • Roof-mounted fans
  • Axial fans
  • Discharge points
  • In-line fans
  • Centrifugal fans
  • Fan housings

Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Bassett

You will get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The times the site is available
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The size of the system

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings

For extract fan cleaning in Bassett, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, plus photos or the previous report if they’re to hand. We normally send a fixed quote within one working day.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
