Duct cleaning in Westdene
Professional ductwork cleaning in and around Westdene, booked around your opening hours and signed off in writing with pictures.
- Stale grease odours from the duct
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
How the visit works
Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Evenings, weekends or a closed day all work for a site in a place like Westdene.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

About our ductwork cleaning in Westdene
Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. Flames pulled in from the cooking line can ignite it, carrying a fire along the duct and into rooms far from the kitchen. Cleaning the duct takes that fuel away. Common call-outs are for grease leaking from duct joints and sections of duct with no access panels, on multi-storey ducts, vertical risers and bends and junctions.
In a smaller place like Westdene, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Westdene kitchens: local notes
At about 3 miles from the coast, Westdene is close enough for sea air to matter. Near the sea, the fan and discharge at the top of a kitchen extract corrode faster than they would inland. According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 18 pubs and bars and about 4 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses across Westdene and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Environmental health officers from Brighton and Hove council inspect food businesses in Westdene. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of the Ascension or elsewhere in Westdene, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. Historic houses near Westdene, such as Preston Manor & Gardens about 1.3 miles south-east, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Montefiore Hospital is the nearest hospital to Westdene, about 1.9 miles south.
Westdene is about 2 miles north-east of Brighton and Hove, in Brighton and Hove. Westdene gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. Westdene is one of 30 towns, villages and districts in Brighton and Hove we cover for ductwork cleaning.
We cover every part of the BN1 and BN3 postcode area for ductwork cleaning and the streets around it. Whether your site is on Mill Road, Croft Road and London Road or a nearby road, our technicians can take on the work. With the A27 close by, Westdene is simple for us to get to at any hour. We also cover the places around Westdene: Patcham (1 mile north-east), Withdean (1 mile south-east), Waterhall (1 mile north), Preston (1 mile south-east) and West Blatchington (1 mile south-west). Larger places within reach include Carlton Hill (3 miles south-east), Hanover (3 miles south-east), Kemptown (3 miles south-east), Whitehawk (3 miles south-east), Bevendean (3 miles south-east) and Saltdean (7 miles south-east).
Around Westdene

Open spaces near Westdene include Ladies Mile and Wolstonbury Hill.
Different parts, different methods
Horizontal duct runs
A long flat run can’t be cleaned from one end. Any stretch out of reach is noted and can fit extra panels.
Attenuators and discharge
Near the discharge, the air has cooled the most, which can mean heavier deposits. We include it in the clean and the readings.
What affects the cost of ductwork cleaning
We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Site rules, permits and inductions
- The scale of the work
We do not list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.
What to send for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- Problems your staff have spotted
- Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
What happens if it’s left?
TR19® is not law, but the duty to manage fire risk is. The Fire Safety Order 2005 makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and grease in the duct is part of that. Even a site near Westdene that is only busy part of the week needs its system checked on a schedule.
No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What your team can do, and what needs us
Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but hidden parts of the system still need specialist attention.
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Looking after it afterwards
Here’s the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps
- Never cook with a filter missing
- Run the extract fan throughout service
- Check readings when the menu changes
File the paperwork in the maintenance log. An insurer, fire officer or EHO may ask to see it, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.
The less grease gets past the canopy, the cleaner the duct stays. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.
Westdene questions
Do you work in villages like Westdene?
Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Westdene is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
Does the sea air around Westdene make a difference to ductwork cleaning?
It can. Westdene is within about 3 miles of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. We look at fans, cowls and fixings for rust as well as grease.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
How do you know if the ductwork needs cleaning?
The date on the last certificate is the first thing to check. If it’s overdue, or there isn’t one, a clean is due, and grease readings will confirm how urgent it is.
What accreditations do you have?
Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.
Can extra access doors be added to the duct?
Yes, we fit access panels where the duct needs them. It means more of the duct can be cleaned next time, and the report will show where they’re needed.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.
