Ductwork cleaning in Weeke

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Weeke

Duct cleaning is the hardest part of an extract clean, and the part most often skipped. Without enough access panels, long stretches can go years without being touched. We open up every reachable section and record any we cannot reach, so you know exactly where you stand. If you’re dealing with fat dripping from the ductwork and a rancid smell from the extract duct, we can put it right, from vertical risers, bends and junctions and multi-storey ducts onwards.

Around a smaller place like Weeke, kitchen extracts tend to belong to pubs, cafés, takeaways and school or care home kitchens. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Signs you need ductwork cleaning in Weeke

Grease settles fastest where the air slows down. Flat runs, bends, reducers and the base of risers are the usual hotspots, and those are the points we pay most attention to.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Ductwork that has never been cleaned
  • A duct clean needed for an insurer
  • A grease test showing the duct is overdue
  • Duct runs that can’t be reached

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Weeke Primary School or anywhere near Weeke, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Questions to ask before booking

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Weeke

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • How easy every part is to reach
  • The number of sites or systems
  • How big the system is

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

Helping us quote

We can often survey from photos. The most useful are:

  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
  • The postcode and the type of business
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Between visits

Once we’ve finished, these simple steps help:

  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted whenever you cook
  • Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Report any grease dripping from duct joints

Any section of duct we couldn’t reach is listed on the report, with the reason. You can then decide whether to have access panels fitted.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval may need to shorten, and grease thickness testing will show it.

Part by part

Bends and transitions

Wherever the duct turns or changes size, grease builds up. Slowing air leaves grease behind, so these points get extra attention.

Vertical risers

Risers are cleaned through panels at different levels. Any part that cannot be safely reached is recorded.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Weeke

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 25 bars, pubs and nightclubs and about 3 hotels and guest houses within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Weeke. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Weeke, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Winchester City council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Fire safety in Weeke falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Hampshire County Hospital (about 0.7 miles south), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you run a café or takeaway near Winchester station, early starts and late finishes leave little time to clean, so overnight extract cleaning suits.

Weeke is about 1 mile north-west of Winchester, in Hampshire. Sites in Weeke get the same service as everywhere we cover: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. Across Hampshire, we cover 683 places, Weeke among them. Our Southampton page covers sites nearby, about 11 miles away.

Postcode districts we cover here for ductwork cleaning: SO22 and SO23. Whether your site is on Elm Road, Dean Lane and Links Road or a nearby road, we can help. Nearby, we also carry out ductwork cleaning in Harestock (1 mile north), Hyde (1 mile east), Abbotts Barton (1 mile east), Winchester (1 mile south-east) and Littleton (1 mile north-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Eastleigh (7 miles south), Andover (12 miles north-west), Totton (13 miles south-west), Chandler's Ford (6 miles south), Hedge End (11 miles south) and Romsey (8 miles south-west).

Near you in Weeke

Locally, jobs take us to businesses close to Peter Symonds College, St. Cross Park and The Railway Inn and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Winchester station, roughly 0.6 miles south-east. Other landmarks nearby include Winchester Castle (0.9 miles south-east) and Royal Green Jackets (Rifles) Museum (0.8 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Twyford Down and Winnall Moors.

When it’s something else

In fairness, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • Sections that cannot be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
  • An extract fan that has stopped working
  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Vertical risers
  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels

Multi-site and managed buildings

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Common questions in Weeke

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Weeke?

Kitchens in Weeke are inspected by Winchester City council’s environmental health officers. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Can you clean school kitchen extracts in Weeke during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 18 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Weeke. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

What is TR19?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

How is kitchen extract ductwork cleaned?

Each section is cleaned through its own panel. Grease is scraped out first, then degreased, with readings taken before and after.

Do we have to stop cooking while the ducts are cleaned?

Out of hours, at a time that suits the kitchen. Long ducts can be split across visits, with the kitchen ready to cook each morning.

Are you accredited?

CHAS, SafeContractor, ISO 9001 and BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We have been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.

How it works

When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. From there, it takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. Everything the job in Weeke needs is worked out beforehand, from the survey.

  1. We map the duct route and check where the access panels are.
  2. Set points along the runs are tested for grease.
  3. Through the access panels, thick grease is removed by hand first.
  4. The duct is degreased with the method that suits the grease, from degreasers to hot water or steam.
  5. Readings and pictures are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.
