Washington ductwork cleaning
Ductwork cleaning for commercial sites in Washington and across West Sussex. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and fully insured.
- Grease seeping out of the duct seams
- Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test
- Ductwork that has never been cleaned
How we handle ductwork cleaning in Washington
Not every duct has enough access panels. Where a section can’t be reached, TR19 expects it to be recorded on the report, and new panels can be fitted to reach it in future. An honest report beats a guess. The work covers access panels, multi-storey ducts and vertical risers, and common reasons people get in touch are high readings at a recent grease test and stale grease odours from the duct.
For a kitchen in or near Washington, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
A written report with photos follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Kitchen extract cleaning to TR19® Grease is certificated through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

When to call us in Washington
Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease collects on the riser walls and gathers at the bottom as liquid grease runs down. Access along its height is needed to clean it properly.
The symptoms we are asked about most include:
- Gaps where access panels were never fitted
- An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
- High readings at a recent grease test
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as St Mary's CofE Primary School or anywhere near Washington, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Ductwork cleaning around Washington
Look up Washington on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens across Washington and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a canopy, grease does not stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. Environmental health officers from Horsham council inspect food businesses in Washington. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready. Washington is covered by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near The Parish Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Washington, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Historic houses near Washington, such as Parham House about 3.9 miles west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Why act early in Washington
Under BESA guidance, the mean grease level should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans. Anywhere that reaches 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Somewhere as small as Washington, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

How the job changes from site to site
Attenuators and discharge
Some systems have attenuators to reduce noise, but they can hold grease in their linings. We clean what can be reached and note anything that can’t.
Horizontal duct runs
Flat runs of duct link the canopy to the riser or the outside wall. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, so each section is cleaned through its access panels.

What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.
When something else is needed
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
- Duct sections that need replacing
- An extract fan that has stopped working
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Washington before we set off.
- We trace the duct and find every way in.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
- Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
How to prepare
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Have your last certificate or report to hand
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
Ask for a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
