Ductwork cleaning across Victoria

About our ductwork cleaning in Victoria

Duct Doctor has cleaned kitchen extract ductwork since 2009, working across London and the South East. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. We’re often asked to deal with duct runs with no cleaning record and readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test, across attenuators, bends and junctions and horizontal duct runs.

Kitchens in Victoria, like many across London, can share a building with flats or offices, with the duct running up through shared risers. Grease in a duct like that is a fire risk to the whole building, not just the kitchen, so a regular TR19® clean protects everyone in it.

We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

When to call us in Victoria

Air cools as it moves away from the canopy. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
  • High readings at a recent grease test
  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams
  • A duct clean needed for an insurer

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Westminster Children's Hospital about less than half a mile south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Questions to ask before booking

  • When they can work, and whether that’s outside your opening hours
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • What insurance they carry

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Multi-site and managed buildings

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with photos.

Leave it or put it right?

A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, which is why the duct matters as much as the canopy. Choosing the date yourself beats having a fault choose it for you.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Why us?

  • Every job surveyed first
  • Each visit written up, with photos
  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
  • Fixed quotes, typically within one working day

Take a look at what affects the cost or how to check a contractor.

When it’s something else

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Access panels
  • Bends and junctions
  • Vertical risers
  • Attenuators
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Horizontal duct runs

What your team can do, and what needs us

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

Good housekeeping makes our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

The process

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Many London buildings have a managing agent, a security desk or a permit-to-work system, so tell us who to contact in Victoria.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Before we arrive

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Ask for a quote

For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Victoria

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The condition we find in the survey
  • The size of the system

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What we need to know

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Want a quote for ductwork cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.

Ductwork cleaning around Victoria

Food Standards Agency records list about 2,776 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 228 takeaways and sandwich shops in and around Victoria, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they cook under a canopy, grease doesn’t stop at the filters: it settles along the duct and up the riser. Overnight is the normal time to clean a London kitchen extract, so trading is not affected. It’s Westminster council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Victoria. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

If you cook for passing trade around London Victoria station, the extract can be cleaned between your last and first customer. School kitchens, at schools like St Peter's Eaton Square CofE Primary School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Common questions in Victoria

Can school kitchens in Victoria be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 58 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Victoria. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the dates the site is empty.

Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Victoria?

That’s London Fire Brigade. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Where does the waste go?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

How do you clean inside the ductwork?

We open each access panel and clean the section it reaches. Heavy grease comes out by hand, and what’s left is degreased, with readings taken before and after.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
