  • A duct nobody has opened in years
  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams

Ductwork cleaning in The Mint

Do you need ductwork cleaning in The Mint?

Damaged or poorly fitted filters let more grease into the duct. The duct then takes grease that the filters should have stopped and it fills faster.

The symptoms we are asked about most are:

  • Stale grease odours from the duct
  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • Fat dripping from the ductwork
  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser

A hospital like Chase Community Hospital, about 3.9 miles north, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

What to look for in a quote

  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • How VAT is shown on the quote
  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • Whether the price is fixed

About our ductwork cleaning in The Mint

Nobody sees duct grease building, so nobody notices it until something goes wrong. A flare-up drawn up from the range can light it, and fire can then run along the ductwork to other parts of the building. Cleaning the duct takes that fuel away. We’re often asked to deal with an insurer asking for TR19 evidence and heavy grease at the base of a riser, on access panels, horizontal duct runs and vertical risers.

Work in a small place like The Mint starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with photos of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

What the work involves, part by part

Multi-storey and shared buildings

Long ducts in larger buildings can mean several visits. We agree a sequence that suits the building, out of hours where possible.

Access panels

Every section of duct is cleaned through an access panel. Where there are none, those sections cannot be cleaned, and TR19 expects them to be recorded.

Honest limits

An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what ductwork cleaning will not do:

  • Sections that can’t be reached safely without new access (those are recorded, and panels can be fitted)
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on in The Mint

  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Vertical risers
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels

How the visit works

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers. Somewhere like The Mint, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We map the duct route and check where the access panels are.
  2. Grease readings are taken at set points along the duct.
  3. We open the panels and scrape out the heaviest grease.
  4. Next the ducts and risers are degreased, using whatever suits the deposit.
  5. We test again, take pictures and note any part that couldn’t be reached.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

For landlords and multi-site operators

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

How we price ductwork cleaning

Sites vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before we start.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • The site address and the type of premises

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

The Mint: your questions answered

Who inspects food businesses in The Mint?

Kitchens in The Mint are inspected by East Hampshire council’s environmental health officers. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Do you cover smaller places like The Mint?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, The Mint included. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.

What’s involved in cleaning extract ducts?

After a survey and grease readings, the duct is opened up through its access panels. Each run and riser is scraped and degreased, then the readings are repeated.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and the details are available on request.

How often does extract ductwork need cleaning?

The duct is cleaned as part of the whole system, at intervals set by BESA guidance, from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Grease thickness testing shows whether that is often enough.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

What does ductwork cleaning cost?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote and we’ll normally reply within one working day.

Ductwork cleaning around The Mint

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 5 bars, pubs and nightclubs across The Mint and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. It’s East Hampshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in The Mint. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Fire safety in The Mint falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Where a hall near Hope Church, or anywhere in The Mint, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. Bursars and site managers at schools such as Liss Junior School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

When your team notices a problem between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.
